Hi,
I have connected a Sunblade 2000 to SM X750 and want this server gracefully shutdown when it's five minutes of runtime remaining in the UPS battery. Also I want UPS to poweron the machine immediately when the AC power to the UPS is restored.
I have the web interface access to the Powerchute Business Edition running on the same solaris box.
Normal battery run time available is about 20 minutes.
UPS Outlets On (server connected on this outlet)
Outlet Group 1 On
## UPS Outlets ##
Time for outlet group to turn off ---
Time for other applications to shut down: 60
Time waiting for Outlet Group 1 to turn off: 90
Time for operating system to shut down: 300
Total time for outlet group to shut down: 450
Time before outlet group turns on --
Outlet group stays off for a minimum of: 8
Minimum battery runtime required before outlet group turns on: 300
Use this additional delay to sequence outlet group turn-on: 0
System Shutdown Management
Shutdown Sequence Summary
Time Required For Shutdown Sequence 0 Minutes
Low Battery Signal 5 Minutes
Command File Enabled No
OS Shutdown Type Shutdown
Enable OS Reboot Yes
Signaling Type SMART
Can you please tell me what settings are needed ?
Thanks

Cool. Thanks.
Both will trigger shutdown. So I guess first will be at 5 mins of battery remaining.

The settings you have above looks good, but It would be good to do a dry run if you can schedule downtime to make sure it'll do as you desired. I also suggest that you check the server's BIOS setting and if possible set it to "Last State" so that it reboots when power is restored. Thanks..
I changed to the below settings
Time Required For Shutdown Sequence (Runtime Remaining Threshold) 5 Minutes
Low Battery Signal 2 Minutes
I am kind of confused about Time Required For Shutdown Sequence and Low Battery Signal . What triggers the shutdown, Low battery signal or Time required for shutdown sequence(Runtime Remaining Threshold)?
The shutdown script on powerchute is taking system to run level 0 which is OK prompt(OBP) in Solaris/sparc architecture. I think they should they should change parameter to power down using -i5 instead of i0 (level 0). That way system is fully powered off after graceful shutdown and when UPS AC power is back it should provide the power to the box and that should start the machine.

To find out which event(s) trigger a system shutdown, go to the Events Configuration page then see what events are checked under the Shutdown column.
