I have a couple AP9627 cables in my hands ... I'm plugging them into a couple of Windows 10 machines ... and Device Manager doesn't see them showing up as COM Ports
Does Windows ship with drivers for this cable? Or do I need to install a driver from somewhere?

Doesn't exist, unless some strange third party company is making them but you can pick up a USB to serial adapter relatively cheap. I don't think I've ever had a laptop with a serial port and they work for me.
Check out somewhere like Amazon, StarTech.com or most online IT retailers. Just an example:

Hi Stuart,
The cable isn't compatible with the NMC, what version of NMC do you have?
Is it a Smart Slot card, if so it will be written on the card, or is it integrated, if its integrated then I'll need the exact model of the UPS.

Hi Gavan,
Minimally: I would like to connect to the following models:
- Smart-UPS SRT 5000 (Integrated: AP9537SUM)
- Smart-UPS 5000 (Smart Slot: AP9630)
Maximally, I would like to build up a kit of cables which between them connect to all APC PDU and UPS models
- I have cables for AP8841 PDUs already

The correct cable is AP940-0299A, it plugs into the console port on the NMC2, (the port that looks like a headphone jack), both units should be the same.
It doesn't require drivers it connects directly to the serial port on your computer and you connect to it by selecting the corresponding com port.

Also for reference, units with NMC3 based cards use a standard micro-usb cable and the driver is built into Windows 10.

Good to know
Have any suggestions for how to connect to a modern laptop, with USB ports rather than DB9 ports? A "USB to headphone jack" cable?
