We've just picked up a brand new Smart-UPS X 1500 with an AP9631 (v5.1.3) and since the turn up on Aug 19th we've been getting some warmstart alerts on the card. UPS seems fine and none of the attached servers have had any problems or rebooting.
This has happened twice now and started yesterday at 09:14:35 and 20:46:46. Was OK this morning and haven't seen anything yet.
Was this perhaps a config change I made when setting up the card after it's initial install?
08/26/2010 20:47:18 UPS: The power for switched outlet group 3, Outlet Group 3, is now turned on.
08/26/2010 20:47:18 UPS: The power for switched outlet group 2, Outlet Group 2, is now turned on.
08/26/2010 20:47:18 UPS: The power for switched outlet group 1, Outlet Group 1, is now turned on.
08/26/2010 20:47:18 Environment: Restored the local network management interface-to-integrated Environmental Monitor (Universal I/O at Port 2) communication.
08/26/2010 20:47:17 UPS: Restored the local network management interface-to-UPS communication.
08/26/2010 20:46:56 System: Network service started. IPv6 address FE80::2C0:B7FF:FED7:413E assigned by link-local autoconfiguration.
08/26/2010 20:46:52 System: Network service started. System IP is 192.168.240.60 from manually configured settings.
08/26/2010 20:46:46 System: Warmstart.

Did you get the card to work properly? I have exactly the same issue (warmstart events) with the same equipment (SmartUPS 1500 with AP9631).

there are also some fixes in the next firmware revision for some causes of this nuisance alarm. you can also check your /dbg folder on the card via FTP to see if there is a debug.txt file on there and post it here for us.

Hi Maurice,
Here is an APC knowledge base that tells you about WarmStarts - [APC Kbase 2572|http://nam-en.apc.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2572/kw/warmstart]. Let us start to check if one of them is present on your end.

Thanks JonPro,
The one thing that caught my eye on that were the network and gateway settings. Although they are correct the IPv6 was also enabled (and not sure where it was pulling it's IP address from). I've disabled it for now and will continue to monitor this week to see if we have any other oddities with this NIC.

You are welcome Maurice, please let us know if there will be new developments with you issue.
I am not that familiar with IPv6 yet but I know that our network management card can issue an IPv6 address to itself.

Looks like that wasn't the issue, the card went into another Warmstart this morning.

09/01/2010 04:55:59 System: Warmstart.
Confirmed firmware is up to date (5.1.3) and everything else on the list you sent over looks fine. Anything else I could investigate?

ftp into the card and see if there is a debug.txt inside the /dbg directory - if so, please post it for us.
thanks!

How did you configure the IP address on the card? Is it DHCP or Static/Manual? Have you tried connecting the card directly thru a PC using crossover cable?

We're on Static as we also needed to configure forward/reverse DNS
Have you tried connecting the card directly thru a PC using crossover cable?
I have not as this UPS is now remotely in the field (with no one in the office), would this actually help with the random warmstarts? what info would I be able to get with a crossover to a PC that I can't over the network?

By using a crossover cable from the PC to the NMC we are eliminating other devices on the network such as cable, router and or switches. This can also tell us if the cause of the warmstart is due to heavy network traffic on your network. This was outlined on the [APC Knowledge Base Article 2572|http://nam-en.apc.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2572/kw/warmstart].

"if the Management Card does not receive any network traffic for 9.5 minutes (either direct traffic, such as SNMP,or broadcast traffic, such as an Address Resolution Protocol [ARP] request), it assumes that there is a problem with its network interface and restarts."
If we had no response from the Gateway for 10 minutes we'd have a few more issues then just this management card resetting itself and would see the rest of the servers connected to the switch having problems. I've checked the graphing logs for the switch and we're seeing nothing out of the ordinary with no spikes or overload in traffic that would be causing this card to drop. Ping rates from the NMC to the gateway are sitting at a constant <10. With the infrequence of these warmstarts it's going to be tough to crossover this to a PC and hope for something to drop.
