I have used my AP9631 Network Management card with environmental probe for several years now. The UPS that it was installed on, was a SmartUPS 750, which has failed and has been replaced. The new UPS is a SMT1500RM2U which was just purchased.
I first contacted APC's chat support and was told the following:
Brian Wiedor: Good
afternoon. I have recently purchased a new SMT1500RM2U SmartUps for my server
room. The old SmartUPS 750 that it is replacing, had an AP9631 card in it. Will
the AP9631 work in the SMT1500RM2U?
Brian Wiedor: I am hoping it will as they both seem to have Smart Slots, but I
want to be sure.
The agent is sending you to http://www.apc.com/template/size/apc/sizing_display_options.cfm?option_type=Management&ups_sku=SMT15....
AP9631, so you can go ahead on using AP9631 in the unit
Now, I am looking and looking and so far I haven't found where it says this (either on the webpage, or in the documentation - maybe I'm just missing it), but when I took the card to the new UPS, it does NOT fit. There are plastic tabs, and they are offset on the UPS. The slots on the AP9631 are parallel with each other, and so it doesn't fit in the slot.
So, is the statement that the AP9631 is compatible with the SMT1500RM2U false? And is my only option purchasing another Environmental/Network Management Card even though this one is still viable?
Thanks,
BW

I had acquired a used Smart-UPS and AP9630 separately and had this issue and stumbled upon this thread. I called the number and a very nice person helped me. She got my info, serial numbers, etc. I explained these were used off eBay and would have been completely fine to have been charged a small fee for the part or told that since they were clearly out of warranty that I was out of luck. To the contrary and my amazement, the next day FedEx dropped off the replacement. I will never again buy anything but APC and Smart-UPS models at that. You have a customer for life here. My servers are happy and safe and have more run time than I could imagine (or need frankly). Thank you APC, don't ever stop being the best.

Hi,
The AP9631 is compatible with the SMT1500RM2U. The tabs on the UPS should be offset and the slots on the AP9631 should be parallel with each other. The slot on the left hand side of the AP9631 should be smaller than the slot on the right hand side. I have attached a picture of a AP9635 that has the same slot pattern as the AP9631. The left side slot is smaller than the right.

Hello,
After reading both of your posts, I believe we do have an older face plate - it has two identical slots, just like the one on the left in Bill P.'s reply. Angela, I cannot see your pics, they do not load.
The first few digits of the serial # (I assume that's it on the reverse side) are JA0908.

Yes, you do. I'll fix my pictures for anyone that cannot see them and I'll contact you offline to get shipping info for a new faceplate.

What is the first several digits of your AP9631 serial number? Some earlier AP9631 were manufactured with the incorrect faceplate before we made a change. I can tell you if your AP9631 falls into that "boat" which it sounds like it does. We'd send you a replacement faceplate next day to remedy this (which has the correct slots) but in the end, yes AP9631 is compatible with your UPS.
Old faceplate which I presume you have (pictured AP9630):
Correct faceplate that we can send you for AP9631 (pictured AP9630):

Angela, we have a UPS that appears to have the incorrect faceplate. What do I need to do to get a replacement?
Thank you,
Rob Fischer

Hi Rob,
Just contact tech support via email/chat (or phone if you want). The incorrect faceplate is on the AP9630/31 Network Management Card (versus the UPS). Just provide them the model of the management card you have (since the faceplates are different) and its serial number and then we can send you a faceplate ASAP.
