Upgrading firmware on NMC2 - current release refuses to install
Hello!
I have a few AP9630s and 31s to update and none will. The common issue (I suspect) is that the APC Boot Monitor is version 1.0.8 from 2014 on all of them. The Application Modules and APC OS versions are all in the 6s from the late 201x years.
Is the problem the age of the monitor and if so, how do I update it?

You will need to contact APC Technical Support for any previous 6.XX firmware as it relates to Smart-UPS / Symmetra.
Given the AP9630 / 31 is EOL and no longer supported you may find very little support.
Regardless, the following action items should be reviewed and validated as they are main drivers for a failed upgrade.
Credentials: The user must be an Administrator and not a device, network, read only user.
Protocol: Insure FTP is enabled in the NMC and do not use SCP to upgrade the firmware while using the wizard.
Logs: Do not save the logs when updating the firmware as this will cause a delay and a failure in the upgrade process.
Format: If the NMC is in a unknown state or corrupted than formatting the NMC is the best course of action to restore it to a factory state.
This procedure will delete all user settings and will enable DHCP by default. The NMC can be formatted by pressing and holding the reset button for 20+ seconds or when you see the orange LED stops blinking and turns solid than release.
This process will take up to 60 seconds to complete than reboot.
Lastly, you may follow the NMC FAQ to manually insert the files in the specific order laid out in the procedure:
