UXABP48 - Need RBC# or battery/UPS charging specs

Hello,

I have a new SUA3000XL, as well as an older SU2200XL and UXBP48 with dead batteries.

I am trying to find out what the correct RBC# is for the UXABP48 - it isn't published  in the UXABP48's specifications, unlike the specs listed for the older UXBP48.  Or short of that, if I could at least find out what type and specs of high-quality (CSB, Power-Sonic, BB, Exide, etc.) batteries are suitable for replacing the ones included in the UXABP48, it would help me out a lot.  Heck, if somebody who owns a UXABP48 could just pop the cover and tell me what manufacturer and model the 4 batteries inside the cabinet are, I can research them to tell me what I need to know.

In researching this I have found references here on the forum to the SUA series of SmartUPS models having "more efficient" (and faster) chargers than the older SU series and that the battery specifications are different to accomodate the charging characteristics - but details are not provided.  If there IS a difference, then I am assuming that the main difference that would matter when it comes to which batteries are right for SUA3000XL's (aside from the Voltage and Ah ratings) is the maximum charging current being a good match to what the SUA3000XL puts out.  But I don't know what that is.

Why do I need to know this?

1) I am on a tight budget, like most Americans.

2) I have an older SU2200XL (SU2200XLTNET) and older UXBP48 that has stopped working and there is a good chance it's just because the batteries are worn out (they're both ~10 years old and I am only measuring ~12.5VDC across the UXBP48's external connector pins - nowhere near 48VDC).  I could make use of the 2200XL as an additional UPS if I could get it going again so I'd like to try buying replacement batteries for the older UXBP48 (and also putting new internal batteries in the SU2200XL) and see if that gets the SU2200XL going again - but if new batteries don't help the SU2200XL, then I just  spent a lot of $$$ on batteries for a dead UPS.  It would be a lot smarter for me to buy batteries that are correct for the newer UXABP48, so I can at least use them with the SUA3000XL if new batteries don't bring the SU2200XL back to life.

3) I understand that if max charge current capability is the spec differerence in the batteries, and I bought batteries for the UXBP48 that can take the (presumed) higher charging amperage of the SUA3000XL, it doesn't harm those batteries if I use them in the 2200XL just because it (apparently) charges at a lower max charge current -- but if the SUA series of UPS's DOES charge at a higher charging current, then putting batteries like RBC11 and the RBC13 (UXBP48 replacement kit) on the SUA3000XL may damage the batteries (if the SUA series' charging current exceeds the max charge current ratings of those batteries).

So I need specs on the UXABP48's batteries.

I can tell you that the UXA48BP uses APCRBC119.

Thanks for the info.  Unfortunately I can't find any info -- even at APC's site -- about the RBC119 kit either.  It's not even listed on the APC online store.

I finally gave up and just ordered a UXABP48.  Which I guess is what APC really wanted me to do.

Given that I just bought an SUA3000XL due to the SU2200XL setup failing, and its age, buying a new external battery unit for the new UPS seemed to be the most wise expenditure.

With any luck, I can get the actual battery manufacturer's product information off of the batteries inside the cabinet when it gets here, and figure out the rest of what I'm trying to figure out from there.  Like whether my old SU2200XL only has dead batteries or also needs repair.  And what I am going to do with the old UXBP48 cabinet.

Did you search for APCRBC119 cause that was the actual part number? anyway, i understand you got a replacement UXABP48 and don't need the APCRBC119 any longer.

I think what the issue is that when this unit was initially released, the APCRBC119 was still in "pilot" and not released (and maybe there is still something going on around that released status) so then all of the documentation stated that and was never updated.

I did.  As far as all the "search" tools I can use in different places of APC's site would suggest, APCRBC119 and RBC119 do not exist.

In fact, if you go to the battery / upgrade selector tool and type in UXABP48, it says the batteries are not user-upgradeable or haven't been released yet.  That must be where your Ask APC staffer got his info.

Oh well.

As I mentioned in the "Ask APC" ticket / email / contact I opened, when the support staffer said the batteries aren't replaceable because it's an external battery unit -- it didn't "compute" for me that they would be non-replaceable, since the battery unit is shipped with the batteries disconnected -- according to the UXABP48 manual, which interestingly enough is also the latest manual for the older UXBP48 -- and also (I believe) shipping the unit with the batteries disconnected is required by law or DOT regulations.  So if you have to connect up the internal Anderson power connectors on the internal batteries to the cabinet harness before you can use the unit, they should definitely be replaceable.

Really hope I'll be able to see the original manufacturer make/model on the batteries in my UXABP48 when it arrives.

Fair enough.  At least  the info on the RBC# is out there somewhere now, thanks to you Angela.

I'll leave it up to Angela or others to decide on the correctness of this information (UXABP48 uses RBC119 replacement set).  I can't really confirm that myself at this point.

APC should really update their product info for the UXABP48 so that the RBC# for its replacement batteries can be found.

Received my UXABP48 yesterday.  The 4 batteries inside are B.B. Battery MPL80-12 units, with I2 threaded insertion terminals.  These are rated for high discharge rate and long life.  Manufacture date code on the batteries appears to be March 2013.

The battery-to-internal harness adapter cables have Anderson SB120's on them and all internal harness wiring is 6 gauge.

As an added plus, my UXABP48 came with an APC SB50-to-SB120 adapter cable, right inside the bag with the documentation.

Still not really sure what the big difference is with battery specs between those used in the older UXBP48's and the newer UXABP48.  My 2002-vintage UXBP48 came with GNB Sprinter S12V300F's and the current RBC13 replacement pack (per APC pictures) shows Power-Sonic PS-12750's.  I have studied the specs for all 3 of these now, and they all have roughly the same max charge current (~23 amps).  Not seeing anything else different about the specs either.
