I've owned many APC UPS over the years for my home/business Dell computers. Need a new one. I notice that the smaller ones don't come with a USB port to communicate with Powerchute. I presume most of the larger ones do. But as I search in stores and online it's not obvious which ones have this feature. I can't tell looking at the boxes in stores- and looking web sites like Staples, Walmart and others- it's still not obvious. I'll probably get the APC 600VA UPS Battery Backup Power Supply & Surge Protector (BN600U1) at Walmart. Will it have that port?

the BN600U1 has a USB port that can be connected to the computer and used with PowerChute.

that model doesn't seem to be available on the sites I've looked at so far - I'm still searching- I can't understand why so many models no longer have this feature- even the BVN900M1 I see on Staples web site- or if it does, they don't make it obvious- seems like a basic feature to me that should be on all UPS- I have the 900M model which does have that feature

hello again, I'm a bit confused- can the USB ports that are not identified as data ports be used as a data port? If so, I'll slap myself for stupidity- otherwise, I see that the BVN900M1 doesn't specifically mention a data point whereas my older version BVN900M has a specific data port

The BVN900M1 does not have a data port. To be compatible with PowerChute or any other software you will need a UPS with a data port.

OK. It's too bad. It's a good feature. I can't imagine why they'd drop it on the BVN900M1- my older BVN900M which looks similar has it. If a company rep is reading this, please pass along my displeasure to the engineers. But, BillP, thanks for your replies. I think it's important for a company's support forum to offer replies even if it's not the answer I like. I realize the forums are usually volunteer. I do appreciate that.
