Currently we are utilizing a Smart UPS 1000 SC on a system that pulls ~10Amps (1.1-1.2KW). The spec for the 1000 SC is 600Watts/1000VA. So my question is, "Is the 600 Watts total output power?" In other words am I asking for an overload situation? I had an overload over the weekend that shut my system down completely. This is the first time an overload has occurred using this model UPS in ~6 years. I have 4 of these systems (SCADA and PLC, SCADA alone pulls down 8A) in place using the same UPS. So now I am looking for root cause for the failure.

Thanks Voidstar. I assumed as much but was second guessing myself based on the idea that maybe the IT guy who purchased these knew what he was doing and that perhaps I was missing something. Again thanks for the response.

Yes, 600 Watts and 1000 VA total is the maximum output limit. So equipment that draws ~1.1 kVA will overload that UPS. That said, if you got the 10A number from the equipment spec, it might be a worst-case number and the equipment might ordinarily draw less current.
