UPS: Lost the local network management interface-to-UPS communication. 0x0102

Hi,

Last weekend I received over 40 time the message "Lost the local network management interface-to-UPS communication."

And shortly after each the message that the communication is restored again.

What can be the cause of this issue?

Kind regards,
Michel van Wees

Hi @MichelvanWees

Thank you for reaching out to the SE Community, my name is Jon and I will assist you with this query.  The event is basically telling us that the network card has lost connectivity to the UPS/device where it is installed.  It can basically be just a glitch and the usual procedure that we do here is to reseat or reboot the card.

We also advise our customers to upgrade to the latest firmware versions of the card and the device and also swap with a known good one to isolate if it is the network card or the UPS.

Hi @JonPro ,

Thanks for your reply.

After posting my question I have rebooted the card. The next morning my mailbox again was spammed with lots of messages.

Last night again more then 100 messages. 😞

I will look into the firmware and see if there is a newer version.

I will let you know my findings..

Kind regards,

Michel van Wees

Hi @MichelvanWees

If you can provide the model and existing firmware of your network card and UPS, I can find the latest firmware compatible with them.

Hi @JonPro ,

hmmm I just before your reply, I replied with all info and some other questions...something went wrong there...:-(

Here you are;

We have a Smart-UPS SRT 5000 (SKU: SRT5KXLI)

The firmware version is: UPS 10.1 (ID1020)

Can I folow the procedure on this link?

Video: How do I upgrade my Smart-UPS firmware using my Network Management Card? - APC USA

Am I right I need to shutdown the UPS in order to update?

And what is meant by:

"After version 15.0 is installed, the NMC will lose the capability to install future UPS firmware updates."

Does this mean this is the last firmware version for this product?

That kinda feels strange, because we recently have this UPS. (Manufacture Date 09-Sep-21)

thank you!

Kind regards,

Michel van Wees

Yes, you can follow that procedure if you wanted to upgrade the UPS firmware by using the NMC.  There is also another way to upgrade it and that is by using the UPS Firmware Upgrade Wizard (FUW).  I have provided the link below for your perusal and it shows that the latest firmware for your UPS is UPS 15.0

How do I update the firmware of my CSH, SCL, SMC, SMT, SMTL, SMX, SRT, SRTL, XP and XU series Smart-...

And what is meant by:

"After version 15.0 is installed, the NMC will lose the capability to install future UPS firmware updates."

This statement means that if your UPS is running v15.0, the ability to upgrade the UPS firmware via the NMC is no longer supported or will no longer work and you have to use the UPS Firmware Upgrade Wizard.

As of today, there has been no notification with regard to the discontinuance of your UPS.
