We experienced a power outage where the UPS did not engage. The error in the log states "UPS: Bypass not in range ; either frequency or voltage." Based on the information below can you tell me what was the cause of this and perhaps are the settings not configured properly?
There is also quite a few "UPS Bypass not in range ; distorted wavform" events. Are these related?
Thanks

Hi Amine
Those messages are just making you aware that the input power to the UPS is bad quality and not good enough quality for the UPS to switch to bypass should it be required due to a UPS issue.
Regards
Matt

So no way to fix this without intervention to the input power line ?
I could see in Power Settings -> Output Frequency Range could be set to +/- 3.0 but I think it's not the right setting since we are talking about the input frequency right?
Thanks in advance. F.

Hi,
I just installed a new Smart-UPS SRT 1500 UPS and have the bypass not in range; either frequency or voltage. Every log looks in tolerance. How do you clear the critical alarm? Thanks

Based on the brief data log you have provided your site has unstable line input voltage.
Default the system to its factory settings and power cycle the system than compare the (Output / Bypass) upper / lower transfer voltage - once done compare to your image capture.
Brain Dead: Complete a brain Dead as outlined in this APC FAQ for the SRT at the bottom:
https://www.apc.com/us/en/faqs/FA156611/
NOTE: All of the steps taken up above brings the system to an OEM Default State. It does not solve any problems you may have at this site with respect to dirty power if present. As such the system is operating as expected to protect the connected load from power quality issues.
You can skip all the above steps and change both settings to the widest range and report back the results to see if the fault clears.
The system will still need to be power cycled once the values have been updated!

I just want to add to this in regards to the original post's question. When we are showing bypass not in range but not on battery when there is a power input problem its because the UPS is a double conversion UPS and it can take in pretty bad power and still use it to create clean properly regulated power. ive seen 240v symmetra units have only 130 volts in and continue to work normally without going on battery. if it needs to use the battery it will.
