Hi everyone,
I have a AP9617 I bought second hand off of eBay. I'm trying to do a factory reset on it, so I can log into it and enable the web interface. I have no computers with a serial port any longer, so I purchased an APC USB to serial cable off Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B082R3X84J/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1). I've got it connected to my UPS, a SUA1500RM2U, and to my laptop. I'm using Putty to connect to it, 2400-8-1-None. I've done flow control none, and XON/XOFF, same result for both. I'm able to log into the interface using apc/apc. But I can't complete the admin reset because the interface freezes. It freezes at different points, it more seems to be a timing issue. I also tried speed 9600, but with that I only get strange characters on the screen, I never get the login interface. Any ideas?

You’ll want to format the NMC instead of resetting it. Press and hold the reset button on the NMC for 20+ seconds, than release.
Once the NMC has been formatted the user name and password is all lower case: apc
The NMC should be in DHCP mode so check your router to see what DHCP Leased IP Address is and login. Once logged in you will have a 50/50 chance the NMC firmware installed is for your Smart-UPS.
If so you’ll see all the options to manage the UPS. 👍 If all you see is the main page and nothing else or things that don’t apply to your specific unit.
You will need to change the firmware to reflect the UPS in use. Let me know if you have more questions and good luck! 👍

Thank you for the reply, I ended up getting the password reset by memorizing the sequence I needed and typing it in before it froze up on me. But this is great info for anyone else in need!
