The old "UPS: The local network management interface-to-UPS communication not established." error and more

Hi,

I have an SUA3000RMXL3U-BR (identical to the other model, except for the standard of the output outlets, brazilian-defined).  It's brand new, with 4 months of use.

Recently I installed powerchute (newest version) and connected supplied usb cable. Worked fine. Detected and installed device driver automatically (windows 2008 enterprise server R2), and when I installed powerchute bussiness 3 components, (agent, server, console), it detected correctly my UPS and worked very well.

Suddenly, with no explanation, it lost the communication with the UPS. When I removed and plugged again the usb cable, the infamous message "

One of the USB devices attached to your computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it

Tried everything, no success. So I started trying use the AP9630 wich is attached at the rear of the UPS. I update it's firmware, put an ip on it, accessed it fine via web. BUT EVEN NMC2 could communicate with the ups, generating in the logs the message describe in the title of this topic.

So, later, on the server, the message of sucessful recognition of the UPS apperead again, but the powerchute agent (I removed and reinstalled again) could'nt find the UPS as it did before.

Long story short : It appears all communicating capabilites of the UPS has vanished, since either via USB cable using the connector at the rear of the UPS or via NMC2 card, communcation with UPS not happens.

What do you need from me to start troubleshoting my problem ? I tried several solutions for similar problems here, but as far I could see, many people had many particular problems, so despite the fact the problem is a common issue, the solution can vary.

Thank you in advance,

Evandro

Guys and girls from tech support from APC, don't bother with my question.

Later I saw other KB here and found the solution.

You can't use BOTH network management AND usb management at same time. Either you disconnect the cable from you UPS NMC, or the USB cable (or serial) from the UPS.

Not both.

After disconnect my usb cable, the communication between NMC2 (ap9630) and the UPS changed to UP and online after an NMC2 reboot.

Thank you,

Evandro
