Test USB port on SmartUPS 1500c

I have tried to connect my Smart UPS 1500c to two different Windows boxes (and FreeBSD) with two different cables (940-0127E) and the UPS is not recognized by Windows at all. It does not show up in the device manager anywhere.  The UPS does pass a self test. How can I test the port on the UPS itself?

Or can I use a standard USB to USB cable to connect it?

I’m not clear as to what you’re trying to do or accomplish?!? Are you trying to use some kind of third party software like APCUPSD / NUT?!?

Are you trying to install the APC Power Chute software like PCPE, PCBE, PCNS, PCSS?!?

Regardless, you may use this APC Resource Link as a starter:

Yes, thank you, I have followed that article and verified that the three drivers listed are present. But I still have no UPS visible under Batteries or HID Devices in the Device Manager.

However when I download and run UsbDeview.exe as directed in that article it does show the UPS at "Port_#0003.Hub_#0003" but lists it as "Not Connected" How do I get it connected?

Well, I have gotten the UPS to show up in the Device Manager by enabling Hidden Devices. It shows up under Batteries and HID now, but it is greyed out in both places.

Also when attempting to install PowerChute Serial Shutdown it can't find the UPS at all.

@apc-toq

If your UPS is a SMC1500C, SMT1500C, or SMX1500RM2UC you are using the wrong cable. The proper cable is 940-0504, which is USB A to USB A. See Schneider Electric FAQ FA163632 https://www.se.com/us/en/faqs/FA163632/

Have you tried other USB ports? Have you tried different (Data) USB cables?

What happens when you try the same on another computer system? Lastly, it’s imperative that any firewall / antivirus be modified (white listed) to allow PCSS to run.

The application should have been installed as an Administrator.

It is a SMC1500C and the 940-0127E is the cable it came with that used to work with the old PowerChute software.  I have tried two different cables, other USB ports, and other computers.  I even tried doing a brain dead reset.  Sometimes I can see it in Device manager as a battery or a HID, and sometimes it comes up as an unknown PCI device?

At this point I am thinking it's a dead RJ-50 port. What is the likelihood that the USB-A port is also bad?  Is that a standard USB cable or do I need something special?

As stated try the same on another computer system. Doing so will at least confirm if the RJ50 port is operational or not.
