Symmetra doesn't see battery modules

I have a Symmetra 12k I picked up via auction. It fires up nicely and doesn't seem to have any problems except that it refuses to acknowledge any batteries are installed.

I've replaced the 4 that were installed in the main unit with the 4 that were in the XR cabinet with no change. Status says 0 modules 0 bad. I have set the options to default values with no change.

IIRC, the power module(s) have to be on (fan spinning) in order to charge the batteries. None of them are on. They all pass diagnostics and the system also recognizes if any are removed or added.

Any ideas?

Bill

As suggested, a known good and charged battery got everything going.

i am assuming that you have no load on this UPS? if so, you can proceed.

i'd first start by doing a "frame sweep." I would suggest starting by putting the UPS into maintenance bypass and removing all modules. You want to find the system enable switch on the back and turn the UPS off, then back on. just start with putting the main intelligence module on the UPS and seeing what you get. you should get error messages such as "no power modules" and "batteries discharged" since there are none. then proceed with placing the redundant intelligence module in the system and then toggling the system enable switch again. make sure all the error messages make sense again, such as batteries discharged, etc. proceed by then adding a power module and then toggling the system enable switch on the back again. turn it back on and make sure you have no faults besides about bypass and then batteries discharged. if everything looks good, add one battery again and turn the system off via system enable again and then turn it back on and see if theres any change with the battery count. if there IS, proceed with a power module then battery combo until you see any weird changes.

essentially, you want to add each module, one by one while resetting the system via the system enable switch in between each module. if you do this and you still see 0 batteries, i'd have to lean towards a problem with the main intelligence module or something that damaged all of the battery bays for some reason.

if you don't feel comfortable performing any of these actions, please call into tech support at 800-890-4272 or of course you can post any additional questions here if you'd like before starting.

Tech support is writing it off as likely a problem with the SYBATT's being fully discharged and of unknown condition.

I'll be buying a new module and see if that will allow it to go online.

i apologize! i thought you said you replaced 4 modules by buying them but i re-read it and you said you moved them from the XR to the main frame.

if the batteries are below about 100 volts or so, they may not be recognized.
