Symmetra RM Power Modules Error

Hi,

I have just started work at a site that has a Symmetra RM (model number AP9215RM) device. The unit has an error stating "no working power modules found – UPS in maintenance bypass”. There are 3 x Power modules and 3 x Battery modules inside this UPS. We have replaced one of the power modules with a spare (new) one but still the unit says it cannot find any working power modules.
any ideas?

thanks.

Hi all,

I have similar problem with one power module from Symmetra LX. I changed old batteries with new batteries the same type (12V-9Ah), checked output voltage on black connector and there is ok, 135 Vcc. When I inserted this module in UPS appeared:

- First, after 5 seconds battery increased and display show total autonomy increased  with 8-10 minutes. This is ok until now. Main PCB see new module with batteries.

- Second, after 20 seconds appear error R3 power module fault on display and red led is on.

I tried to put this reconditioned battery module in other slot but appeared the same fault R4, R5...etc.

Inside PCB  from battery module is ok, no damaged...

What can be ?

Software problem ?

Hi

To begin the AP9215RM is just the model of the LCD menu. The Symmetra RM's model and serial # would be on the back of the UPS.

This is probably going to be something where you need to call tech support. There could be a problem with an intelligence module in the system so it is not seeing the power modules.

I'd recommend calling in at 800-890-4272, if not, as long as you are in maintenance bypass (check the switch on the back), disengage all of the battery modules immediately. If the UPS sits in maintenance bypass for an extended amount of time, the batteries will discharge into the frame and become toast.

After removing the batteries, disengage all of the other modules and only insert the main intelligence module and then as long as you are in bypass, toggle the system enable switch (waiting 5 seconds in between) on the front. This will reset the UPS electronics only under normal circumstances. Then start the system with just that main intelligence module and then insert one module at a time after that, toggling the system enable switch each time, checking your error messages. Obviously, with only the intelligence module in there, you should get messages at that time like no good power modules, no batteries, etc. When you get to a power module, make sure its recognized and see if the issue is resolved. The main intelligence module might just need a reset or it might need to be replaced.

If you are not comfortable doing this, definitely call into tech support or perform this after hours. I only recommend the above procedure if you are familiar with the system and can perform this at your own risk.
