Hi,
We are planning for a new datacenter which contains 2 seperate UPS rooms, each planned to house a "Symmetra PX 300kW + 1 Additional Battery Frame". My question is what are the best practices for ventilation or cooling these UPS rooms?
Thanks

There are several issues here:
1- Temperature:
According to APC Application note #48 the Symmetra PX and Battery cabinet ideal temp. is 25C and ideal ambient temp. is 20-22C.
2- Humidity:
Again according to APC Application note #48 you must keep RH between 35% and 55%.
3- H2 generation and ventilation
based on NFPA-76 and the APC application note, There must be at least 6 cubic meter/hour so Hydrogen accumulation must be less than 1% of room space.

Something else; Is it absolutely necessary to control UPS room temprature?

Yes it is very important to control the cooling for UPS rooms. Battery life is directly proportional to storage conditions. Battery life is halved for every 10C over 25C. Try and keep the batteries at a constant 77F for optimum life.
Batteries perform under discharge better at higher temperature however you sacrafice the overall life of the battery keeping them hot. Keeping batteries cold will give them a longer life however the discharge performace is poor. The ideal medium is to keep them charged at a constant 77F
