Symmetra Extended frame fault

I have one of the old Symmetra power array SY16KEXI with one additional battery frame. Since a week this shows message as "Extended Run Frame fault". The error message cleares itself in 20 secs "Extended Run Frame fault cleared". This happens few times a day. The battery frame communicaton is good and reports the right number of batteries and reports battery quantity increased and decreased messages. Is there are real problem with the extended frame or these are junk messages? The fault cleared message does not appear on the display but on the event long on the management cared (AP9606). Help me fix this.

Thanks.

Bala,

I was a little confused by your post. Are you stating that only the 9606 reports that there is an XR Frame Fault? Have you gone through the powerview logs to see what they report? If the PowerView doesn't report anything, I would recommend reseating the 9606 and see if it continues. How old are the batteries in the XR Frame? I have attached a document if you would want to fill that out for us to do some small analysis. It's the standard PowerArray template.

Hi there,

The power view also reports the same errors, but the fault cleared is reported in 9606 only and not in power view. I will try and get the form filled and sent to you. The batteries are 5-6 years old, but since the system runs with only very little load (10%), power view reports close to 5 hours of runtime and self test pass every fortnight.

Thanks
Bala

I had a similar problem with an Extended run cabinet - intermittant frame faults. The problem turned out to be the large DC bus connector that links the ups cabinet with the xr cabinet. There was a pointy looking "leaf spring" like contact in the middle of this connector (plugs into the bottom left corner of the rear panel of the Masterframe) that got slightly mashed at the ups end by the previous owner ( i bought it used). Check this connector for damage as it is fragile. Otherwise, you can also make sure you have the ferrite beads installed over the XR communications cable. Put a bead at both ends just to be on the safe side.

Good luck!
....Dave

Bala,

Are you still going strong with this after reseating the CC?

Thanks for that update.

I'm curious to also know if you're planning on replacing the SYBATT's since they are beyond 100% life expectancy (as you stated that they are 5-6 years old).

If so, and they are going to be housed in the XR frame, can you let me know either here, or offline via Private Message whether or not you receive an XR Frame Fault or any other weird messages once replaced.

Thanks.
