We have 2 Symmetra 40K UPS/PDU complexes in our server room, both installed about 4 years ago (a little less, actually, but close). One of them just failed a self test, and when I retry it, it continues to fail. Current load is at 49.8% with battery capacity at 100%. It correctly shows 16 batteries (0 bad) with all Module Status displays as On & OK or OK. How would I go about finding the cause of the self-test failure? I've checked documentation and searched this and other forums, but have come up blank. Any pointers you can provide would be greatly appreciated. UPS Firmware version is 540.1700.M.
Cheers,
Chuck

Thanks - I'll give that a shot! Our server room is being expanded in another 6 weeks, we'll be down for 4-6 weeks, that will be a good time to have a PM done and update batteries, etc.

Chuck,
I forwarded this to our Three-Phase Tech Support Team, and they had the following to say:
This most likely this is a result of old batteries (you did mention the units were purchased 4 years ago, which means it is probably 5 years old). The self test is probably aborting before it completes. Things to look at are how old are the batts, what the load, runtime, and charge % is before and after trying to do the self test, and then also the low battery signal time. It would be best to have call in with the UPS so we can get the serial number, etc., see what the warranty is, and then troubleshoot, but ultimately it sounds as though the batts. will need to be replaced.
The 3-Phase number is:
877-287-7835
