Symmetra 80K has blown!

Hi,

One of our Symmetra 80K UPS has blown. It blew all 3 160A fuses that sit inside the APC Power Distribution board. Looks like these fuses are for the Bypass feed. With the fuses blown, output failed yet the UPS still had power. I.e, all Power Modules were running, alerts were still coming in and the MIM and RIM had power.

We reckon the most likley cause of the fault was the Static Bypass Switch.

However, we've now replaced the Static Bypass Switch with a spare (moving the ID card with it). Have replaced RIM and MIM and installed a new PM. Removed all other PMs and all batteries apart from one row. It powers up without blowing the fuses but the MIM and RIM fail with red LEDs on both. Tried with just the MIM and get the same problem.

We've basically run out of ideas now. We've replaced as many modules as we can get our hand on. There are some small power supplies (fuses are ok) and a switch gear communication card that we haven’t replaced.

The error logs read:
UPS: The external switch gear communication card was removed.
UPS: The static bypass switch module was removed.
UPS: The load exceeds 100% of rated capacity.
UPS: A power module fault exists.
UPS: A main intelligence module fault exists.
UPS: A redundant intelligence module fault exists.
UPS: In bypass in response to an overload.
UPS: An Internal communication bus fault exists.
UPS: The output power is turned off.
UPS: The load no longer exceeds 100% of rated capacity.
UPS: A power module fault no longer exists.
UPS: No longer in bypass.

Interestingly the first log points to the switch gear communication. I've checked the card and there are no physical signs of damage. There's definitely no way this card could blow 3 phasse at 160A each! (or is there?)

Just wondering if anyone else has seen this fault and if yes, how they fixed it?

Also, if the switch gear communication card is blown, would that cause the MIM and RIM to fail to boot?

Thanks in advance for all advice and tips!

Glenn
