Switched Rack PDU:Communications lost.

Hi we use your Switched Rack PDU's for our server room and have been getting notifications regarding this. What is the best course of action to take regarding this? It had the Er symbol as well.

Well, we have a password reset procedure. That is a unit from 2003 whatever it is so it is likely that it will need to be replaced based on what you told me so far. Did you see the model number on the same sticker you got that serial number from?

Here is the password reset procedure for our AP79XX series Rack PDUs which I think you may have: http://www.apc.com/support/index?page=content&country=ITB〈=en&locale=en_US&id=FA156075 You'll need the serial cable/local connection for it in order to reset the administrator password.

I am not sure if you think it is worth pursuing the cable and resetting the password versus my educated guess/gut feeling that this device, based on age and symptoms, will need to be repalced.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Can you confirm what model this is? It'd start with probably AP79 or AP89. The first several digits of the serial number would be helpful too. In general, this is not good and means the Network Management interface in the PDU has lost internal communication to other components of the PDU, such as the outlet relays. Reviewing the event log can help me determine that this is the case for sure though.

This knowledge base has instructions on downloading the event.txt which I need -> http://www.apc.com/support/index?page=content&country=ITB〈=en&locale=en_US&id=FA156131

Be advised if this error is because what I said, if the Switched PDU loses input power or is rebooted when communications are lost, it could cause the outlets to reboot or not turn on since the management interface and outlet relays can't "talk."

Hi Angela,

I'm having issues accessing the event info. The problem is I dont have the passwords to access the network card, no one in our office does since the person who set it up didnt share that info when he seperated the company. What do you recommend us to do in order to recover those passwords? As what info i have now i can just provide a serial number for the PDu since this is all the info i have plus its IP. I can give you all info once we can access our network card.

Serial # : WA0322160329
