Suggestions to learn about data center power
I'm interested in learning more about electricity/power as it pertains to data centers/server rooms. I'm trying to appropriately determine the kinds of loads to anticipate from additional hardware we're adding to infrastructure.
I've created a spreadsheet with numbers for PSU size, percentage load (60%/80% in watts), and amperage (draw on 120V and 240V). I'm using this to know how to distribute devices between two circuits so I'm not exceeding 8A per circuit in case one of the circuits fail and it fails over to the second circuit.
I've been trying to determine how power calculators from specific vendors come up with their estimated wattage and I know power draw varies based on components installed on the hardware, however, it looks like the 60% utilization looks to be 'close enough' of an estimate when comparing from multiple vendor sites.
I know this isn't like a "look-at-this-five-minute-youtube-video" type of topic to get a handle on it, but any kind of resource, online or otherwise, that I can dig into for an adequate understand for someone who needs to grow a data center and can speak to these things with some level of intelligence would be greatly appreciated.
