Hello together!
I have a SmartUPS SMT1000i with a Ap9630 NMC2 installed at home.
Everything works fine, but the WebUi is only English... So i want to install a LanguagePack witch supports German as Language.
I found a PDF from APC with a Step to Step Instructions.
I updated my NMC2 Firmware from 6.21 with the EXE to version 6.40 and also selected a German Language Pack to install...
All these Steps are done successfully, but there is still English as Language in the WebUI available. So i put the lpk file via FTp in the Card in the lang Folder und restarted NMC2 and also the full UPS. But same thing. there is alway still only English here and no German,Russian eg...
Here a screenshot from my "LANG" Folder on my NMC2-Card:

Can somebody help me pls?
I dont have a solution for this problem... I despair...
(Sry for my bad english, i am a German user )
Best Regards
Mark

Hi Mark,
Ok, for full format you have two main options:
1.) hold down pinhole reset button for 20+ seconds. The status LED (next to the checkmark and X) will pulse green and change to orange/amber color when done. This can be very frustrating depending on where your NMC is physically located and also aligning a paperclip or similar tool to the reset button and doing it all without slipping off. Since you have access to the NMC already, I suggestion option 2 below.
2.) Log in via Telnet or SSH or serial cable and execute the format command. You'll need to type YES to confirm it and then reboot with a YES to confirm that action. This will be the easiest. Let me know if you need guidance on accessing via one of these methods to get to the command line interface.

As long as you took the config.ini from this same NMC2 (with same MAC address and installed in same UPS), YES all settings will be there. Some settings depend on the MAC address or even serial number of the UPS it is installed in. The NMC2 checks to see if MAC address and serial numbers in the file match the device so yours will and all settings will be there. You'll need to configure the NMC with TCPIP settings likely so you can FTP/SCP the config.ini back in. This will be easiest.

I guess I already answered this above before I saw this last question Let me know if it was not clear. If you have access to your DHCP server client/lease list, yes, you could find the IP through there with no problem. Or, maybe set up a DHCP reservation if you have the access or capability to do so?
Once you have that IP, NMC2 will be set to telnet and FTP by default. You can log in via FTP and then upload your back-up config.ini to the NMC through there. Because of all of the settings, you may need to log in to command it to reboot or wait for your session to end/time out and NMC2 will reboot on its own.
I hope that is clear. Let me know if you have any questions

Hi Mark,
So, 6.4.0 is what you have now, right? Does it let you delete the 6.2.1 language pack off the system? Then I'd restart/reboot the management interface again once that file no longer shows in /lang folder.
If that doesn't work, delete both files out of /lang, restart, then try putting the 6.4.0 file in there again and logging out and restarting one last time. That is what I'd try if this was my NMC.
Hope these steps work for you

Hmm, not sure why. If it won't delete, I suggest we may need to "format" which means completely wipe/remove ALL of the settings, including your TCP/IP networking settings. This means you'd have to reconfigure those settings potentially to regain access. If you back up your configuration by downloading config.ini, then you could reload the majority of it after formatting. This will leave 6.4.0 on the system but should delete the offending language packs. I am not sure if you are able to do this though? If so, I can guide you through doing it - either through a telnet/SSH command or by physically going to the NMC and holding down the reset button for 20 seconds.
I was going to suggest reset to defaults (as opposed to what we call a format) which allows you to keep your TCP/IP settings but I don't believe it will delete the language pack. You can do this through the web and the control->Network menu if you wanted to try it and have a config.ini or don't mind reconfiguring but I don't think it will remove the pack.
Let me know if you are able to format/reconfigure your NMC or have any questions. Beyond that, I am not sure what happened and how it got this way unfortunately but a format should do the trick if you're able to do it. You can then try puttin the 6.4.0 .lpk file there back in the /lang directory and then letting it reboot to see if German is there for you.

Are you sure that refers to the actual user/owner? The NMC doesn't really support that type of sophisticated stuff like Linux does. I don't know of a way to change that but with my product experience, I don't think it can be done.
And yes, you have the general overview of what needs to be tried.
Will you specifically try reset to defaults or "format?" I just wanted to make sure on format you were clear on the steps so that all goes well and format is done properly.

Good Morning Angela,
thx for your help!
I plan to make a full format, which means all my Settings are lost. That seems to be the best solution to me...
So when i hold down the Reset Button 20 Seconds on the NMC2 Card ist will be really "formated"?
And when i make before formatting the NMC2 Card a Backup with a config.ini File, and re-install this after formatting, are settings like Hosts,ShutdownTimes e.g. again available? (as it was before formatting the NMC2?) Or must i set these settings also new?
Best Regards
Mark
edit:
one more...
If i "format" the NMC2 through a ssh command via Remote, can i access the Card if i know the IP which she gets from my DHCP-Server? So that i can reconfigure it remote? 😄
And how would the ssh command called for formatting?
Best Regards from Austria
Mark

Good Morning Angela!
Thanks for the time, that you invest in my problem!
Yesterday evening i make a backup with the config.ini from my UPS und formated the NMC2 Card over telnet!
After formating the NMC i, logged on in the Webinterface and uploaded my config.ini.
After that i uploaded the language Pack, and rebooted the NMC.
BUT, there was NO other Language as English available 😞
SO, i format the NMC once again...
Then i uploaded the language Pack and rebooted the NMC2.
Now i had all Languages available, that these Pack supports!!
After that i re-upload the config.ini und reboot the NMC2...
But unfortunately I had to find that only a part of the settings have been restored..
So i re-upload the config.ini one again and reboot the NMC2 once more...
After that, all settings were available. (at least at first glance ) - (because it was very late yesterday, and I was pretty tired )
Today i will again control all settings, but everything looks very good!!! => You rescued ME!
THANKS THANKS THANKS!
Best Regards,
Mark from Linz/Austria
