SmartUPS 3000 emits constant beep but works otherwise

Hey guys, hopefully I don't have a critically dead or dying unit on my hands but I have a client with a SU3000RMXL3 with an additional external battery cabinet. The unit started emitting a long continuous tone one day (with no error or red LEDs on the front panel). We thought it was simply the batteries needing replacement as the unit is now 3 years old. We've replaced the batteries and disconnected the external battery cabinet but the SmartUPS still makes a long continuous tone once it's powered on. I've tried all the reset tricks I know (holding buttons down, etc.) to no avail.

The odd thing is that the unit still works. It's charged the batteries to 100% (so it says) and with about a 40% load (5 2u servers) on it I can disconnect it from AC power and it properly switches to battery.

Anyone have any ideas how to shut this thing up?!

I have the exact same problem with an SUA1000. I did try replacing the battery with no luck. Please let me know if you find a solution.

Hi Brandy,

You can also consider the APC Trade UPS program which offers a lot of benefits when you are trading your old unit to a new unit. Click here to know the Trade UPS program advantages.

Have a nice day!

Hi Brandy,

This is an abnormal operation of the UPS. Is the UPS making a constant beep when it is turned off? If your client is using the Power Chute to monitor the UPS, then please post the full event and data logs of the unit. Secondly, I recommend you to brain dead the UPS in case if you have not tried it yet.

To brain dead a Smart-UPS, the load must be turned off and unplugged. Next, the UPS must be turned off and unplugged. Once unplugged, push and hold the off button for 6 to 8 seconds. The sensitivity light in the back of the UPS should go out and there should be a small audible click in the unit.

On or off it makes the constant beep. The only way to cut the noise is to unplug it and shut it off. I've already tried "brain deading" the unit. I do hear the click and the noise shuts off. But once you power it up it starts up again. I'm about to go in there and swap the batteries into another similar model unit just to double check.

Yeah, that's not normal operation. The beeping should at least stop when it's powered off. Sounds like there's something not quite right internally - maybe check out Coastal Business Machines for some out of warranty repair options? 888-234-9877

If it's working perfectly otherwise, there's always the option to de-solder the speaker off the board ๐Ÿ˜‰

Have the exact same problem with a SUA30002RU, functioning ok for 2 years.
Moving to a new office and connecting it resulted in a continuous beep, with NO other error (UPS is online).
UPS is functioning ok but the constant beep will not stop.... Powering off with "braindead" mode makes the beep go away, but once you turn it on it returns...
Should this UPS be used in a production environment ? (has any one disconnected the speaker where is it located ?)

Thanks for your help,
Ted Tsoukas
