SmartUPS 1500 issue after installing a new battery...

Have an older 1500 which threw a replace battery error. (Old battery was just over 2 years.)  Managing the UPS with Powerchute Buz (PCB), current version. Updated the date of the battery in PCB, waited for the battery to come up to 100% charge, and verified the charge level in both PCB and the status lights. Pulled the wall plug, and my computer immediately shut off, (35% load indicated in PCB), no UPS function at all, just power off. 

Restarted the UPS, showed 60% charge, and let it come back up to 100%. Then tried to do a calibration in PCB and had the same result, computer immediately shut down. Any idea what is going on?

Hi Gerald - 

Have you attempted a self test? If so - what happens? You can initiate a self test via Powerchute or by pressing and holding the ON button (Probably labeled I/Test) on the front of your UPS. Once the UPS switches to battery you can let go.

It would also be helpful if you could supply the exact model and serial number of the UPS as well as what load is attached.

Same thing with the self test, computer/monitor immediately powers off. Have tried it from PCB and the self test button. On restart of the APC I get a replace battery indicator, show about 60% charge. After about 10 minutes of recharging the replace battery light goes out

Exact model# and serial# of the unit which is on white bar coded label at the rear?  DLA1500, AS0720320204

What are the other equipment connected to the unit? Apple Powermac 3.1, Apple 30” Cinema display

Thanks for the additional info. The UPS should certainly be able to support a Powermac and a cinema display without issue. I'm not sure how long you allowed the battery to charge, but I would suggest charging for at least 24 hours and then re-running the self test. Assuming that still fails, it sounds like the battery is bad. If it is a genuine APC replacement battery we offer a 1 year warranty on the battery itself. Tech Support could assist you with an exchange. Now if the battery is not faulty and has been allowed to charge the other possibility is that the charger is faulty.  Usually a self test will catch this and you will get multiple LED's blinking in unison instead of just a replace battery LED. That being said, this UPS is 10 years old and that's definitely towards the end of its life expectancy.

It charged for over 24 hours. After trying another self test (it failed) I'm gong to return the battery.

Powermac is a blast from the past! Maybe it's a Mac Pro 3,1?
