Smart ups 1500 making clicking noise

Hi,

We recently had to unplug our UPS for a while.  The room it was in had water damage - though as far as we could tell the UPS was working when we unplugged it.  Today I was re installing the UPS, and it tried and failed the self-test a few times, and now the red LED labled with an X (not the battery with an X, just and X) keeps flashing on and off, along with the top two green battery indicators.  Its also making a rapid clicking noise, like a relay turning on and off. Any ideas?

To add to this, once you've shut down the logic completely, open the battery door and physically inspect the UPS for any condensation or water.  If there is any, make sure it is fully dry (12-24hrs or more depending on how much liquid) before attempting to restart it.

Hi Bridgett -

Can I get the exact model and serial of your Smart-UPS 1500? It will be on a small white sticker with a bar code either behind the front bezel or on the back of the unit.

Ok, that would indicate a logic power supply fault. You can try a brain dead reset on the UPS: Turn the UPS off, unplug it from the wall, then press and hold the OFF button again. You should here a subtle and you might see a little flash of the LED's. This step completely shuts down the internal logic of the UPS. You may then plug it back into the wall and turn it on. If this clears the fault, you are probably all set. If it does not clear the issue, the unit most likely needs to be replaced. Given the serial number of the UPS, it is probably due for a battery replacement. If you happen to have a known good battery handy, it might be worth trying it in the UPS just to see if that makes any difference before you purchase a full replacement UPS.
