Smart-UPS SC 620 turns off when connected to computer

Hi...I'm new to the forum. On battery power, it shuts off when I connect it to the computer via serial to usb.  I want to configure it to stop beeping

when on battery power.  I plan to only use it as an inverter with a water turbine charging the battery.   ...So can it only be configured while on utility power 220V?

can you verify the part number on the serial cable you're using? (which then is apparently connected to a serial to USB adapter)?

Hi...I'm using a U232-P9 adapter...however, I called telephone support today and was told to use the 940-0024 part.

My adapter is non compliant, no?

OK so this UPS does not ship with the USB to serial adapter APC provides like some of the larger SC models.

Can you confirm everything you have there?

If there is any chance of making it work it should be: UPS->940-0024 cable which came with UPS->USB to serial adapter->USB port on your computer.

Also, did you install drivers for your USB to serial adapter? A standard USB to serial adapter might work here if it is set up properly but we have not tested that particular one.
