Hi, i recently replaced the battery on a smart-ups RT. With the new battery plugged in (and plugged into the wall), the UPS doesn't power up and constantly chirps, a chirp a second. The UPS also doesn't turn on with the battery disconnected but makes no noise. Anything i can do or is this thing shot? Thanks!
Al

Thanks for the responses. I got weird results out of the mulitmeter. it ended up being a loose connection inside the case.

If you have a DC voltmeter and know how to utilize it safely, remove the battery pack from the unit and check its voltage. If it is unusually low, the batteries may have been in storage long enough that they'll need to be brought back up with an external charger. You should measure somewhere in the vicinity of 48 volts DC.
Be careful when taking these measurements: remove any watches, jewelry or similar items before you start. 48 volts DC is well into hazardous territory if not handled properly. A short circuit could produce severe burns or even an explosion.
There is also the possibility that the batteries have been stored for too long and are damaged as a result.

If you were able to measure the battery voltage, please let us know the reading. If it falls below 40V DC, chances are you have a bad battery. SmartUPS RT won't turn on with bad batteries.
