All,
In searching I see this has been looked into before but the conditions didn't seem to fit (referencing http://forums.apc.com/spaces/5/smart-ups-symmetra-lx-rm/forums/general/6428/ups-will-not-take-ip-add...)
I have a Smart-UPS RT 5000 XL with an AP9631 that is running SUMX v5.1.7 and AOS v5.1.7 and the below message is what I recieved -

I show the 'Last Battery Transfer: UPS Battery Test' and this unit passed a self-test 3 days prior.
Any thoughts regarding this alert would be helpful - if it's somehow tied to the 'UPS Battery Test' I can understand but seems an odd message to deploy. The duration of the alert is what caught my eye the most 21 seconds this was in this condition.

Generally speaking, this message usually means the batteries are not connected properly or for some reason, the UPS isn't seeing them. Reseating the batteries is the first step. Do you have any external batteries or just the internals?

There are no external batteries configured on this device. I will try to have someone reseat the battery connection and see if that helps. If it doesn't is it typically the battery or ups that is causing the issue of communication?

Good day Techone,
How old are the batteries in the UPS?.I'd also like to suggest measuring the floating charge of the battery strings, a discharged battery may also cause those messages.

This unit was manufactured in 4/8/2011 and we deployed them onsite in June/July of 2011 so they are not old at all. I have two 5000 in the same location on the same circuit and the other doesn't have this issue. I've thought about swapping the batteries one at a time to see if the issue follows the battery or stays with the device. Direct access for me to measure voltage isn't possible without a 10 hour plane ride so I'm trying to do all I can to isolate.

I'm sorry about the hassle, but can you check the data logs from the NMC or ftp into the card and obtain the logs then paste them here. Here are the instructions about how to obtain them.[How can I download Event logs and Data logs and Config.ini from the Network Management Card?|http://nam-en.apc.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/9321]
