Hi there! I have problem to get connection with my laptop to this type UPS. My cable is 940-1524D. I try use Hyperterminal software but I cant connect to the device. What is your suggestion?
I have here also Smart UPS RT5000 with it's own serial communication cable and that connection work's well, I can find UPS with my Hyperterminal easilly but with 3000XLM UPS the connection does not work. Give me please some tips.
UPS is brand new and I have reason to think that it have got some impact during the transport, so if slot for RS-232 or management card it self is very sensitive, could be that impacts during the transportation is defected thta device. Is there some good way, how I can find if management card is healthy or not, what I know, there is no any led's exist on board.???

Yes, model of this device is Smart UPS 3000 XLM, I can find SUPM3000 from power module and 911-0023 from battery module. This settings for RS-232/COM1 in my case you mentioned, I have tried many times, without results. I have special device for my laptop that i can monitoring if some RX/TX is going on but I can't see even any RX with that device, let me tell that for our other units I can see RX trafic even before I set the COM port settings for laptop, so for me it's look that serial communication doesn't work???

Hi There! I use the port settings mentioned in manual. That settings work well with other UPS but not with this one. 9600bps, 8, none,1, none... I also tried slower baud rate but with same problems. I don't know what is "smart slot" accessory but there is place for RS-232 and for Ethernet cables. Any more tips?

can you tell us what port settings you are using? did you make sure you connected to the correct COM port? is there a smart slot accessory installed in the back of the UPS?

ok. well. we need to find out which model this is. if it is what I think it is, SUM3000, similar to [this unit|http://www.apc.com/resource/include/techspec_index.cfm?base_sku=SUM3000RMXL2U], then you need to be connecting to the RS-232 on the back @ 2400 baud, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, parity none, flow control none.
an NMC comes pre-installed which is a smart slot accessory. if that is installed, like you see in the picture (the AP9619), then you should maybe just verify [this knowledgebase article|http://nam-en.apc.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/3061] since serial communication will let you access that NMC while its installed.
hope that helps
