Hi,
We bought four second hand Smart-UPS 3000 RM .
After performing a runtime calibration we left all four UPS’s pluged in to the mains (turned off) to recharge the batteries overnight.
The next morning two of them where beeping, fast short beeps.
Both will not turn on and will not respond to any buttons, all leds stay off.
Beeping stops when disconnecting the batteries, after reconnecting the UPS starts beeping on touching a button or connecting the mains.
Connecting the mains will only start the beeping and does not light any leds or operate any relais.
All four where connected to the same mains on the same fuse with no other devices connected.
One of the ups’s had a AP9617 controller which functions normal in an other UPS.
Anybody any idea what could be wrong with them?
Robin…
specs of all four:
Type: SUA3000RMI2U
Date: 08/18/03 (from the two that work)
Serial: YS03341102xx (only the xx are different)
Firmware: 666.4.I

just for the heck of it, will any of these "cold start?"
this consists of starting the UPS off of its battery by doing the following:
1) Turn off and unplug UPS from wall
2) Press and hold the on button (labeled I/TEST) on the front of the UPS until you hear a LONG beep.
3) Let go DURING the long beep. If you let go after the beep ends you will need to try again
4) UPS should go through its' normal selftest and end up on battery with 4 beeps every 30 secs.
we would know that the UPS at least starts up on its own or if it exhibits any other symptoms.

This sounds like a battery problem to me.
Runtime calibrations are great in theory but have a tendancy to damage lead-acid batteries, so I've learned.
Swap the cartridge with one of the functioning UPS units. If the previously functioning one ceases to function and the previously non-functioning one works, you have your answer. Don't forget to cold start, as noted before.
Hope this helps
