I connected a serial cable to the UPS unit and the unit shut down. The serial cable has "42.524 02.001" stamped on one end. Can someone please verify thast this is an APC cable. And if even it is the wrong cable, why would this cause the unit to turn off? Does the APC monitor software have to be installed before connecting the cable?

Hi Chris,
APC serial cables generally start with a "940-xxxx" number depending on your UPS. Using non-APC proprietary serial cables with an APC UPS can cause the UPS to act in unwanted ways (such as dropping the load) depending on the cable and pinout. The APC software does not have to be installed prior to connecting the serial cable.
