Smart UPS 1400XL, periodic fan running, new unit, very small load...

my 1400XL is in my home office. It has a VERY small load on it (one PC, an external HD). The fan comes on about every two minutes or so and runs for about 15 seconds and goes off. I don't recall this happening in the past. By new I mean the device is about a year old with about 10 hours usage on it.

Any ideas?

well ventilated, in a cool room...well, a house set at 74....it has on the smallest load on it. SN: AS0847360196

is it well ventilated? this unit's fan should only come on when the internal temp goes over 104ºF (or 140ºF - i forget), the UPS is on battery, load is > 75%, and the UPS is charging.

can you provide the first few digits of the serial number? like AS0432?

hmm ok. do you have any monitoring software running with this so we can check to see if it THINKS any of those conditions are true, that i mentioned? if not, would it be possible to install powerchute business edition agent with the serial cable or no?
