Silcon SL60KH: Behaviour on utility power restored

What would happen in situation if Silcon SL60KH UPS runs on batteries and servers are shutdowned gracefully and then while UPS is still running utilty power is restored.

Will UPS restart itself. In this way servers will be booted up, but all other equipment will have unecessary restart. Which PCNS settings at UPS and servers are relevant to make this work ?

Can UPS use 'Wake On LAN' to boot up servers via IP in situation described above? If this is possible what are the settings which have to be made on servers both on BIOS and operating system level (driver, power management configuration, ...).

Darko,

Here's the response I received from one of our 3-Phase Engineers:

To ensure your UPS will turn back on when power is restored, you must ensure that the' Auto Start' function of your Silcon is enabled. To verify this, please go into your user parameters by hitting the '#' key on your keypad. Then scroll through this menu until you see 'Auto Start'. If it is set to anything other than 'YES', then press the 'C' key until it does. Then hit the '#' key again to store the 'YES' value.

Keep in mind that there is NO Wake-On LAN support for any APC Networked Devices. It all points to the server BIOS settings and whether or not the last state of the server is set to restore itself when power is restored to it.

Hi,

Thank you very much for support.

Still is not clear to me, what happens in situation when servers are shutdowned, UPS (Silcon) still operates on batteries and in that moment utility power is restored.

Hi Darko,

After everything's shutdown, the UPS will remain on battery unless you log in remotely and power it off. After utility power returns (if still on battery, not fully discharged), it runs a prolonged "Self Test" as I like to call it which allows it to temporarily cut power, cycle between on-battery and on-line, then provide power again to its output.
