I just purchased a BE750G and have a Vista desktop and Windows Home Server plugged in. I have Powerchute Personal running on the Vista box. I would like to have both systems shutdown in the event of a prolonged power loss. Is this possible with the BE750G? Can it work through a USB switch or across a router? Are there other software solutions? thanks

unfortunately, the Back UPS product line does not support shutting more than one computer down at a time. most people use this line of products with a single computer so the feature is not built in and is not supported by the hardware. powerchute personal edition also does not support anything like this either.
if you need to shut multiple computers down, you will need to look into a [Smart UPS|http://www.apc.com/products/family/index.cfm?id=165] with either an [interface expander|http://www.apc.com/products/family/index.cfm?id=60] or [network management card|http://www.apc.com/products/family/index.cfm?id=98]. With either one of of these, you'd use Powerchute Business Edition (with the interface expander) or Powerchute Network shutdown (with the management card) which would be a graceful shutdown acheived over a network.
unfortunately, those solutions are a bit more costly as i am sure you will notice but essentially are the only supported way to really get multiple computers to shutdown. this is usually only required in a small business type of situation and isnt common to the home user.
one other idea comes to mind - on the computer with the powerchute personal edition, you could somehow run a script and send a message to the other computer to shutdown but thats about it. this UPS just does not support multiple computers connected to it for graceful shutdown.
maybe someone else here can chime in on anything they have rigged up.

Thanks. I am going to try getting the WHS to shut down the Vista box. A timely post on Home Server Hacks directed me to some scripting options: [http://www.gridjunction.com/] and [http://alexpummer.com/?p=463]
