I have a Smart-UPS 1500 circa 2006. I replaced the battery two or three years ago. It's a secondary UPS, running the routers and switches. I forget what the load is, it's while since I looked at it, but it isn't excessive.
Yesterday we had a very brief power hiccup. The main UPS sailed right through. The 1500 went bananas, with all lights flashing and the unit chirping about once a second. I unplugged the UPS and plugged the load directly into the wall. I removed the battery and let it sit overnight.
Today I reconnected the battery and plugged it in. Totally dead. No response whatsoever.
The battery isn't swollen. The negative screw terminal is a little corroded, and there's some corrosion on the negative side and bottom of the sheet metal housing in which the battery sits.
Should I try a new battery or just chuck the whole thing?

Hi Jonf- the UPS is now non-responsive with the battery connected and plugged into wall power?

Oh, and, the circuit breaker has not tripped.

Were all the LEDs flashing on the front simultaneously? Or were only certain LEDs flashing? The LEDs all flashing in unison, no matter the combination, typically indicates a fault condition on the UPS itself. None of what you provided made me think a battery was worthwhile at this time.
Did you happen have this being monitored by PowerChute or a Network Management Card? (You probably would've mentioned it but I'll just double check).
So in summary, it sounds like some type of UPS fault has occurred but I am not sure I'll be able to tell you anything further with what I do know. And I'd be hesitant to say a battery will help with something as you described.

All the LEDs were flashing in unison. I don't have any monitoring on that one, maybe in the next one. Sounds as if I should just get a new UPS.
