Server startup after Shutdown

Hi,

I have various Smart UPS's installed at clients, ive been sold to that these UPS's, can issue a clean shutdown command to the servers thru powerchute, then the servers shutdown all OK.

Then when the power is restored after sometime, even after the UPS is drained flat.. It will then start the server up, i cannot seem to get this to work. I believe its actually impossible.

How does the APC issue a command to an off server to startup.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

Thanks in advnace.

There should be a BIOS setting to turn the computer back on after a power outage. There's a picture here:

Craig,

the UPS cannot issue a power on command that is done through the BIOS of the computer. See Kbase FA159547.

Thanks Bill,

will the BIOS setting assist even if powerchute has told  the server to shutdown?

Craig,

Yes. If set up properly configured when PowerChute commands the OS down the UPS will wait a defined amount of time than then kill power to the outlets. When AC is restored the UPS will restore power to the outlets which in turn causes the computer to start up.
