SURTD5000XLI not working, no lights

Hi,

After a power outage yesterday, our SURTD5000XLI will not power up, nor power the servers connected to it.

The batteries are known to be bad, and I have a new set in order processing currently. I did read that the batteries need 80VA for it to turn on, and I suspect that is the issue.

However, I have taken out the Network Management Card 2, and put it into another UPS, and there does not seem to be any events in the log regarding the power outage at all. It has gone from complaining about the batteries a few days ago, to powering up once I put the card in the other UPS. Is this expected? Or is there a good chance the UPS is dead and needs replacing? The unit is 5-6 years old, but budget is tight so trying not to make expensive rash decisions!

Hello - 

If possible I would recommend checking the voltage of the battery packs with a voltmeter. If they are under 80v at all it is very likely that the batteries just need to be replaced. If they are also 5-6 years old and original to the UPS, it would make sense that they have failed. Average life span of a battery module in this unit is 3-5 years.

You should be on the right track. These units, and similar models, won't power up without a good set of batteries in place.

If the batteries were bad enough, it's possible that the NMC2 lost power before it could log an event concerning the power outage.

Thank you both, that is my feeling also. I will have to ask the director if they want to risk spending £340 on a new set of batteries with no guarantee that it will work!
