SUA2200I - Calibration constant

Hi,

I installed a new set of batteries (RBC55 purchased from an APC dealer) in my SUA2200I UPS but the runtime hasn't changed from the 17-20 minutes @ a load of <15%. Doing a manual calibration hasn't helped and I am wary of repeated calibrations affecting battery life. A screen shot is attached.

I've been reading on these forums about a calibration constant that can be changed to reset the UPS microprocessor so it recalculates the run time. Can someone guide me through the procedure by using the APC serial cable?

Regards,

Viv

Hi Vivek,

Have you tried running the calibration using the software? Also, did you recently add a load on your UPS or it has been the same eversince? If you haven't changed anything, what was your runtime before?

Hi Jonathan,

Thanks for your response. Yes, I tried the software calibration as well but there's been no change in the runtime. The first calibration attempt was manual i.e. running the UPS on batteries with a ~30% load and the power switched off at the outlet. The UPS remained plugged into the outlet (for earthing/ground) and the USB communication cable was disconnected.

Also, no equipment has been added. When new, the UPS' runtime was approx 106 minutes at the same load. After 2 calibration attempts I am not too keen on giving it another go for the sake of the new batteries.

I live in tropical country (India) where ambient temperatures at home range from 22-30 degrees Celcius (71 to 86 deg F) depending on the season. UPS batteries generally last 2-3 years. APC India recommends a battery replacement every 2-3 years.

Regards,

Vivek

Thanks Jonathan. The procedure worked perfectly. After setting the constant, I ran the UPS on battery till the charge indicated approx 50%. It was then left overnight for charging.

The backup time now reads 123 minutes @ a load of 13.6% (~280W) . Somewhat in line with APC's published runtime chart which indicates 132 minutes for the same load.

Thanks for your help once again.

Regards,

Vivek
