Hi all,
I am running a remote observatory with and SUA1500 and Ap9630 Management card providing UPS to the PC, router, switch etc.
I am wondering if it is possible to remote turn off/reboot individual power sockets without resetting the whole UPS. I.E if the router freezes and needs a reboot, i would like to just reboot the router while keeping everything else online.
Is this possible? - I read some APC UPS/Management Card combos can create "outlet groups". Does my UPS/Card have this ability?, is there a guide to do this?.
Many Thanks,
Paddy

Hi Paddy,
Your UPS does not support outlet groups or individual outlet control - only reboot of all of the UPS outlets at one time. Some UPS models, like those with the prefix SMX, SMT, or SRT have some pre-defined outlet groups you can control, but still no control at the individual outlet control.
What you could do is connect a Switched Rack PDU to the output of your UPS which will give you individual outlet control. Switched Rack PDUs have an embedded Network Management Card inside of them, similar to the Network Management Card in your UPS, except it is just inside a different device and will allow you to control at the outlet level. That is the product we offer at rebooting hung equipment like you described.
Here are the Switched Rack PDUs -> http://www.apc.com/products/family/index.cfm?id=70
Once you find the best input/output configuration for you, each SKU/model has a documentation section and the user's guide has information on configuring outlet groups if you want to do that.
Let me know if you have further questions.
