I have a SUA1000UXI Smart Ups with 2 external 12V Amaron Quanta 65 AH batteries i.e. one 24V 65AH Quanta battery. The runtime remaining shown in Powerchute Business edition is 83 minutes with 25% load. Theoretically it should be 6.63 Hrs. Since it uses only external batteries there is option to change no. of battery banks ( which is 0 for me). What is the default battery value used by UPS to calculate runtime? What runtime should I expect with my batteries.

Hello,
UPS models that support XL capability support changing the amount of battery packs as you've found. Some UPS models also support adding a value for external battery cabinent "AH" but I am only familiar with doing that in the Network Management Card. I assume you have not found that in any of the PCBE screens after looking?
I know the APC battery pack for this UPS has 12vDC 17AH batteries in it, qty 4 in it. They are wired to be a 24V pack. I think that the battery pack is intended to give you about 34-36AH so you could at a minimum adjust the external battery pack accordingly to account for your external pack if there is no field to specify AH.
I don't have a runtime chart for this older model unfortunately. If it is required, I will have to dig further.

With the latest version of PCBE I dont get the above screen. I can still set the no.of battery banks. If I do change the no. is there are effect on the charge/voltage supplied to the batteries or is it just used to calculate runtime. There is a firmware upgrade shown for my model but I'm not sure how I apply it to my ups. Thanks for the help

Yes, that screen is from a UPS Network Management Card so I didn't know if PCBE offered the same thing.
The only thing that setting (AH or external battery pack qty) would change is the reported runtime estimate you receive. So no change to charge/voltage.
Where are you seeing a firmware upgrade for your model? There is none so that is why I am curious. SUA model UPSs are not field upgradable. Perhaps it is a PowerChute update? Can you provide a screenshot of where you see this and I can guide you?

Ok, that is misleading and wouldn't apply to you. It is really an SNMP MIB available for your UPS if you use a UPS Network Management Card with your UPS.

Hi
The UPS can be calibrated using RS232 Port. for proper battery PACK and runtime.
Make sure you have the following:
1) PC with RS232 Port
2) APC RS232 Communication cable supplied with UPS
3) Hyperterminal software running in the PC
3) Teamviewer ver 9 loaded on to the PC with RS232 (for remote access)
4) UPS to be connected thru RS232 with the PC
5) No Load should be connected to the UPS
6) the UPS should be kept on.
Let set ups a time and we can perform the calibration thru Teamviewer
Thanks
- Muthu

The only port I can use is USB. I wish there was a simpler way to calibrate this Smart-Ups. Every time there is power failure the battery drops to around 87%. With power restored and soon failed the battery level dropped from 87% to 67%. There was a load of <10%. It did take a long time to recharge again to 100%. Is it because the ups is not properly calibrated this is happening. The batteries are brand new.

Did you update the battery pack quantity? The percentage of battery capacity is based on the capacity thinks it has. If it cannot "see" or update based on the amount of batteries connected, this percentage could be misleading.
You can issue a runtime calibration though PowerChute Business Edition or just try a manual one here, assuming you updated the external battery pack count in PowerChute at least. Instructions on a manual runtime calibration (option 3) is here -> Why are the battery charge LEDs flashing on a Smart-UPS? | FAQs | Schneider Electric US

I did set the battery count to 2 and it shows around 700+ minutes with 10% load.I hope the PCBE software has the AH option in future updates. But when power fails the battery level drops very fast. The battery LEDs also go off one by one with time. I have heard about problems with calibration constant, so maybe I should just call support and tell them to update it for me. This document came with my UPS which considers battery bank of 80AH http://www.apcmedia.com/salestools/ASTE-6Z8LB7/ASTE-6Z8LB7_R0_EN.pdf
