SUA1000 not communicating on serail ports, only USB

I upgraded from a SmartUPS 700 to a SUA1000. The SmartUPS 700 was connected through a APC serial cable to a Windows server 2003, running PowerChute 8.5.1. This server runs APC agent, server, and console. Everything worked fine.

Got the SUA1000 and wanted to keep using the serial communication. Everything else remained the same. However, I can't get PowerChute to detect the UPS on COM1 (the one it is plugged into just like before). I tried several things:

- checked and tried different cables

- uninstalled agent and went through installation wizard

If I force it manually to COM1 in the console the communication turns green when "basic signaling" is selected. However, this is deceiving as even then I can't really communicate with the UPS. SmartSignaling doesn't work at all.

USB COM appears to work.

What could I try to get the serial to work again?

Hi,

SUA1000 is not compatible with PCBE 8.5.1 PCBE 8.5.1 was specifically written for the SMT750s. You should uninstall 8.5.1 Agent, download PCBE 9.1.1 installer from APC.com and run that. It will install Agent version 9.0.3 that is compatible with the SUA1000.
