Hi
I have a Smart-Ups 1000VA (SUA1000ICH) and I have installed a spare AP9605 management card in it (All i need is SNMP access so the AP9605 card should be perfect)
The problem is that card doesn't seem to work properly in this UPS. I can connect to it via the console cable and it responds, but there is no username/password prompt and the menu shows only options to load an agent and kernel from a tftp server.
So I gather that the AP9605 is not compatible with the SUA1000 - can anyone confirm that the AP9606 is compatible with the SUA1000?

Hi
When I connect the console cable i get this menu without having to log in.
Choice:
1- Load Agent via TFTP
2- Load Agent via XMODEM-CRC
3- Load Kernel & Loader via TFTP
4- Load Kernel & Loader via XMODEM-CRC
5- Reset System

Ok thanks I guess like the card may have had its operating system erased from extended cupboardness.
Would you recommend trying an AP9606 with it's numerous updates or going with one of the SNMP compatible cards listed on the following page? are the AP9605 and AP9606 not listed because they are just unsupported or plain incompatible?

Hello,
Both the AP9605 and AP9606 are phased out already, that's one reason why these cards are no longer listed. If you do have an SUA1000 UPS the compatible cards are new Network Management Card 2 (AP9630/AP9361) and the Network Management Card 1 (AP9617/AP9619 - phased out, AP9618).

I ended up getting an AP9617 and it works correctly in the SUA1000 - confirming that the slot on the UPS works and that the AP9606 is not compatible with the SUA1000.

AP9605 and AP9606 should both be compatible. You should know that both are over 10 years old. I would at least see if you can find an AP9617 to avoid running into issues and missing out on features. you also won't get much support on those pretty ancient accessories.
if you still want to proceed, i attached the user's guide for the AP9605 to ensure you tried to connect to the device via the correct cable and port settings.

Hi there, thanks very much for the info... I made the cable and I have re-tested the cable with an SU3000INET(?) and AP9605 card and I was able to log in with apc/apc and see all the network settings so i think the cable is good.
I do realize these cards are very old, but it does meet all my needs (if it would work) and i am an snmp junkie.
Have you seen these cards ask for a kernel via TFTP/Xmodem rather than the standard apc/apc login prompt? I can post the menu options here if you think it would help?
Could this be standard behavior for a management card in a non-compatible UPS or perhaps the symptom of an erased eeprom from a decade in a cupboard, or maybe an insertion into a non brain dead UPS?
i would like to know if you think it is worth trying another AP9605 card in the UPS, or finding an AP9606 to try instead?
