Hi,
I recently got an SUA 1000 UXI with 2 X 65 AH batteries connected to it.
1)The problem i face is that the fan inside is too loud, it spins down only when the system is off and if its not aggressively charging the battery. Its sou loud that now its almost impossible to keep it in my bed room. Its twice as loud as having my two systems swithed on together.
Is there a problem with the UPS i have? The load connected to is hardly 20 % of the max.
2)Also what is the backup iam supposed to expext with those batteries at 800 W load connected to it?

Stop calling others crap when you don't know what others are going through. After a lot of fight and talking to the region head a couple of times I got a brand new UPS replacement and its working fine since then. Understand one thing, its the franchise who repair the products that are crap, not the products or the people who are rightfully complaining here you Id!ot.
The fan is still loud when its charging or in discharging mode. You kept it in your office so it was fine. Keep it in your bedroom and you shall know how loud the fan is. Just because APC is MNC doesnt mean all their stuff is great! I see lots of people complaining their inverters are bad. Read mouthshut.com if you cant digest this.

i agree that what you went throw is ridiculous. i cannot vouch for APC india tech support just because everyone from APC on this board is from the USA or Ireland offices for the most part. Smart UPS as far as I know are not user servicable so I was a bit perplexed as to the PCB board getting swapped out in the first place. believe me, if we are able to do something here in the USA for your troubles we would be I am not sure what can be done.
if you'd like to private message me any details you have on who you spoke to, etc if they speak english i can gladly speak to them and try to sort things out to the best of my ability if that will help.

Hi All,
Sorry I was busy fighting the APC technical support and could not reply.
I am not sure if this is the right place to post the whole issue...
So here's what happened.
First of all I stay in India and here the UPS is called SUA 1000UXI.
I purchased this UPS form an APC certified vendor on 22/NOV/2008 who sells nothing but APCs and batteries from good companies.
The batteries are AMARON QUANTA maintainance free external batteries of 65AH each - recommeded by all APC certified vendors in INDIA.

Now the complain :
1)Out of the box the fan was very noisy. Iam not sure if this is normal since it almost makes as much noice as 3 Radeon 4870 grafix cards turned on at once outside the PC cabinet.
The fan spins up to full speed when the UPS is on batteries or when its actively charging the batteries(that is when the charge on the batteries is less than 98 percent as shown by the powerchute Business
Edition.)
2)Secondly the charging time to completely the charge the UPS was 45 + hours.
This is how i tested it:
I removed the mains from UPS and statred playing games on my PC and i could play CRYSIS for 4 hours on 400 W load on the UPS before the UPS shutdown.
Then i Connected the mains and didnt use the PC for next 2 days and it took almost 45 hours for for all the 5 power LEDs to glow up indicating that charging was complete. and IT took more than 2 days for this to happen.
And the fan was houling loud for 2 days almost causing head ache.

What I did...
Since I work for a software company I get only a few hours in the weekend to test stuff. So I needed some time before i could complete all the above experiments and I called up the APC service center on
19/12/2008 which flawlessely registered my complaint as DAO and sent some technician home. The APC CC also told that it should take only < 15 hours to charge the Quanta batteries I had.
The person who came, inspected the UPS, and for some unknown reason on the same morning, all the lights on the UPS had started blinking at the same time which indicates faulty PCB i guess. The technician told me "it was faulty and since the complaint was regestered within one month they will consider it as DAO and send me a brand new UNIT".
After few days I did not get any reply and called up the APC CC to discuss the isssue only to find out that they will not be replacing it but will be repairing it.
Since this was a out of the box problem with the fan and the charging UNIT. I insisted that I needed a brand new piece and not a repaired piece for my money. I refused their offer for almost a month of getting it repaired as it was a DAO.
Then i spoke to the the Service Manager Lead who said clearly that they cant replace it with a new piece since its against a company policy since last 6 monhts and convinced me that I was no different then any other customer and I should go for a PCB replacement which will be done in front of me at my home.
HE ALSO ASSURED ME THAT PCBs ARE MANUFACTURED IN BANGALORE ITSELF and they have them at stock all the time. So it will happen immediately.
I agreed to It since by this time I had almost spent 250 minutes of my mobile airtime calling the CC. They are really really Hopeless. They put me on hold for literally 15 minutes most of the time to speak to the escalation team.
Finally after agreeing for a PCB replacement. APC escalation team called me up the next day, said that its a better that I send the UPS to their service station so that they could do all kind of tests on it and I didnt have to do any testing on my side. So I agreed to them and sent the UPS.

Here is what Happened...
Knowing the fact that the APC service is pathethic in India I secretly made permanent marking on the UPS top panel and the body front and the back before sending it. Nobody could ever Identify this.
After a few days I got a call from one of the APC franchise "CENTRAL DATA SYSTEMS PRIVATE LIMITED, BTM LAYOUT, BANGALORE." These are the great HOLY guys who had picked up the system from me.
THey said. "Its not possible to repair the UPS. So we will be sending you a brand new UNIT". Since I was at office My parents recieved the UPS.
When I came back home. To my HORROR what I was told was a great LIE.
They had fitted the top cover of my old UPS(which was basically scratch free) On some one year old base unit. I identified this by the secret marking I had made.
The base unit was totally scratched, had Hell lot of dust on it and spider webs crawled out of the UNIT. Any maroon would agree to the point that this was a very very old unit.
Also Central data systems had informed to the APC that they had sent my UNIT back to me with the PCB replaced.
I immediately called APC CC and told them the entire story. They immediatly called up the Central data systems only to find out at that time that the a different piece was sent to me rather than sending my piece with the PCB replaced.
We then had a 3 way conference with the Central data systems guy. He argued to the point that it was a new piece and he hadnt opened it.
After I argued with them about the secret marking, then he made up another lie that since the new piece had a scratched top panel he had put mine on it. And agreed that he had opened the SO CALLED NEW UPS.
Then after 2 days APC CC called me saying that "Central data systems would bring back MY ups and replace the PCB right in front of me".
Since I Didnt want any more headaches I agreed to it as it would solve my problem.

Here is what is still goin on....
After this incident I didnt got any calls from APC for 15 days. So I called them up and after shouting at them they had me chat up with the service manager lead who said "that the PCB has to come up from
Chandhigarh(which is in North INDIA to BANGALORE which is in south INDIA)". He said its in transit and would reach me by monday(8th feb 2009) maximum . Now how the hell did manufacturing center shift from
BANGALORE TO CHANDIGARH?
Who is the Liar? the APC service maganer - Mr. Shankar Ganesh?
Central data systems - Mr Shredhar the Holy cheater?
or the APC CC(Call center) - For making fake promises and making me wait for literally hours?

It didnt End here peacefully....
Again after shouting at the APC CC yesterday that "monday was over and it was friday" they called up Central data systems and informed me that they would do it today-saturday 14 feb 2009.
Today I got a call that they are coming with new PCB and my UPS which was with them. They came, gave me the NEW sealed PCB and......... got some UPS which was very clean and looked new BUT WASNT MINE.
The permanent marking I had made had gone. Amazingly the serial number remained the same......
BECAUSE the serial number was a sticker and andbody can replace it. ITS Bloody not pressed/printed on the steel!.
I accepted the PCB but refuced to take up the UPS that they claimed was mine. After showing the Photo proof of the marking I had made earlier. They took it back. He even agreed that the marking on the top
cover which was with the UPS I have currently was permanent and it would no way go away from the body of the UPS which they claimed was mine and took back the UPS.

Now what Am i supposed to do ?
1)I have all the original bills, installation bills etc...
2)All the call recordings on my phone(that i Made with APC CC and others.) - Lirerally 6 hours. And I have shelled out literally 15 - 20 $ on phone bills.
3)All the Photos and video recordings of markings on UNIT - old - replaced etc.
Is there any thing i should do? OR Shall I hit the consumer court right away?

which model battery pack is attached to this? i will need to reference the runtime chart for it to look up the battery pack.
it appears as though it would need to be SUA24XLBP but it doesnt sound like that by the amp hours you mentioned.
also, how old is this UPS? can you provide the first 6 characters of the serial number? the fan shouldnt be that loud that it keeps you awake at night i dont think but we may have different opinions.
you'd want to make sure the fan is clean and not damaged, but other than that, i see no other solution than replacing it. its not a user replacable part unfortunately.

Hi All,
I am a customer of APC SUA1000UXI for last 3and half years. I am using it in my office and i have connected 3 PC.I never faced any problem as such and i am 100% satisfied with the system.Whatever others mentioned are scrap.Don't listen to it.Please start using SUA1000UXI.Its a good and one of the best System i have ever experienced.Being an MNC company APC will have superior products than any other UPS company.
I never faced fan issue or Charging time is also as usual.
