SNMP for a Fujitsu branded Smart-UPS

Hello,

I am in the process of setting up SNMP monitoring of a UPS.

The UPS model is a Smart-UPS 750, the UPS SKU is FJT750I.

Does this support SNMP monitoring?

Thanks,

Liam

Hi Liam,

Yes, this is making sense except for the fact you said Solar Winds is able to monitor SNMP over USB for your APC branded UPS. This is not something we offer (or that I think is even possible). I am thinking maybe you also happen to have a UPS Network Management Card installed in the APC branded UPS that is really doing the SNMP? And the USB cable happens to also be connected. If so, that same solution would work in the FJT UPS as it should also have a SmartSlot for the APC accessories?

Is it possible to check if the APC branded UPS also has an APC NMC installed to be sure?

Yes, it should if you buy a UPS Network Management Card (NMC) for it or if it came with one pre-installed. (From what I can tell online, it does not typically ship with an NMC if you specifically bought the SKU "FJT750I."

The UPS itself by default only supports monitoring over USB and serial communications. Networking monitoring like with SNMP is provided with an NMC.

Thanks for your reply.

We are running a solarwinds monitoring agent on the server that the UPS USB cable is attached to, so I presume the monitoring agent would be able to capture snmp checks that way.

On another server we have the same setup, and the monitoring agent can perform snmp checks for the USB attached UPS, the difference being the UPS is an actual APC branded UPS with a model number of SMT750I.

So the difference being the one that does not work is a fujitsu branded smart-ups, the one that does is an APC branded UPS.

Would the OID/MIB be different for the Fujitsu?  If so would you know where I can get the OID/MIB information?

Hi Liam,

As far as I know, this type of stuff is not different on the FJT UPS but I am not 100% certain. But, I am still not clear how you'd be getting SNMP data over the USB cable. Via USB, there is data available that I refer to as standard UPS USB usages which would make sense to me.

Is it possible that you are looking at SNMP OIDs over the network (with NMC installed) and have USB connected?

Can you elaborate more so I can fully understand what interface we are referring to on the UPS for sure so then I could check further into it?

I was reading a bit on Solar Winds and I see Universal Device Poller as something to configure. But to me, it looks like all OID, MIB, SNMP related over the network.

My understanding at this point too is that FJT UPS would support the same SNMP MIB and OIDs as the SMT UPS.

Hello Angela,

Yes I am looking for the SNMP OIDs over the network.

The interface on the UPS I am using is the USB interface.  The USB interface is connected to a server that has the solarwinds remote monitoring agent installed to monitor SNMP.  The agent then reports back to a central console that is cloud based.

Does this make sense?

Thanks,

Liam
