SMX1500RM2UCNC Alarm state: Replace Battery

Re-posting this question, because in the previous thread, someone pointed out that I had posted the wrong model number in the subject, so I edited the subject and somehow that seems to have locked the thread, as I can no longer reply or see the other replies.  To confirm the model number, etc., here is the full info:

Model: SMART-UPS X1500
SKU: SMX1500RM2UCNC
Serial Number: AS2152160954
Firmware Revision: UPS 02.0 (ID1031)
Manufacture Date: 12/28/2021
Apparent Power Rating: 1440 VA
Real Power Rating: 1350 W
Internal Battery SKU: APCRBC115
External Battery SKU: SMX48RMBP2U

=======

Hello,

I have aSMX1500RM2UCNC and it has started to beep continuously with Alarm State: Connect Battery.

Existing battery still seems good, outputs 50V when tested with a multimeter.  Still, we tried replacing the battery - same result.  Factory reset, same result.

When plugged in to utility power, the UPS does not run without a battery, instead it powers on and off repeatedly every few seconds.

When the unit powers on after plugging battery in and with utility power plugged in, it stays up and running but immediately goes into Alarm State: Connect Battery.

We are not able to run tests or diagnostics using the panel.

The web UI shows, "The battery is not installed properly."  We are quite certain that it is properly installed and fully seated.

Model: SMX1500RM2UCNC

Firmware: UPS 02.0 (ID1031)

Thanks!

=======

Since posting the above, I had also performed the "brain dead" logic reset, or whatever it's called, I can't access the old thread anymore.  This made no difference to the behaviour of the unit.

=======

Additionally, we had a scheduled power outage last weekend, and to my surprise, the unit perofmed all of it's correct functions: emailed status change reports, switched the load to battery, sent low battery notifications, and supported load until it was out of battery.  So it seems to work fine except for two things:
1. It constantly beeps.
2. It constantly reports: UPS: The battery is not installed properly.

Attaching most recent event.txt and data.txt logs .

Thanks!

Yes, I think so, but that thread got locked somehow after I edited the subject line and I can't reply to it or even view the responses anymore.  Thanks!

Based on the errors that you have you may have distorted power that is causing the UPS to go into battery

This UPS should be able to un without batteries if the power is okay

You may want to consider reducing the sensitivity of the UPS so that it does not react as fast and allows for a bit of distortion if your load can handle it I suggest you do this
the UPS typically is set to high sensitivity by default

If the issue persists try to plug the unit to a different outlet preferably to a different circuit or isolate if the issue by connecting another UPS and to the same outlet and see if it behaves the same. I could also be caused by a loose connection.
I suggest that you try to make sure that the UPS can run on utilility only so that you do not discharge the battery any further. since on your data logs it is now only 29 % charged depending on your load and low battery threshold the UPS will turn off its outlet

After resolving the power issue install the batteries let it charge to 100% and run a self test to see if the batteries are still good the batteries still shows 48 volts which is a good sign when fully charge typically this batteries can reach a voltage fo around 54 volts

I finally got time to shut down our relay rack and do some further troubleshooting.

I have checked the sensitivity.  It's set to normal, and I believe it always has been.

I have tried using a different outlet.

The UPS does not run on utility only.  It powers on, then off repeatedly every 5 seconds or so.

When the UPS is running on battery only, it detects the battery, displays the load, battery capacity and estimated runtime.  During my last test of this, the battery capacity actually increased from 36% to 37% to 38% while on battery only with no load.

I am unable to complete a proper calibration, logic reset or brain dead, because when the unit is plugged in, it does not detect a battery.

The UPS does not detect a battery when plugged in.  Near as I can tell, it's borked.

Thanks,

-Dave

Hi Dave,

Have you defaulted the unit to a factory state via LCD Menu?!? If not please do so and report back the results.

Given your hardware is out of warranty I’m hesitant to suggest the following. Which is to update the UPS firmware to the latest 15.5 release as you’re still running the initial 2.0 firmware.

You may review the release notes here:

APC Firmware upgrade FAQ:

https://www.apc.com/us/en/faqs/FA279197/

NOTE: The UPS firmware process should be conducted live over the phone with APC Technical Support. All requirements must be in place and met prior to any upgrade.

All active faults / errors must be cleared before proceeding. As such the current battery disconnected message may cause the system to abort this process.

Try reducing the sensitivity to Low the Normal setting is the highest Sensitivity setting for this Unit. If the issue persist you may have a faulty sensor (too sensitive) or possibly a relay weld where the UPS continuously goes in to battery thus draining battery and it can not go to its normal or online mode.
