SMX1500 Battery Box
The older model of APC products had large battery boxes you could hook up to the rackmount gear. I remember some had adapter cables, so you could use the older big battery boxes with the newer gear. Does anything like this exist with the SMX1500 XL models? I want to use the plug in the back to hookup the older larger battery boxes? Does anyone know of anyone who has done this? Or is there a product I am not seeing?
I am tempted to just order a cord, cut the one end off, and put two O-rings on it for battery terminals, and just do it manually. I see the newer cords have two female, and two male pins in between the two pins for the power. It appears to hookup to a little circuit board that detects if power is supplied by the looks of it. I am afraid if I do something like this, it won't work anyway, due to the circuit board not being hooked up. Can anyone confirm this? My luck, I will cut the end off a $100 cable, and it wont work.
The system incorporates a simple resistor network to determine if a battery pack is present and the quantity.
In older SMX UPS firmware the number of extended battery packs were manually entered into the system as whole packs ( NOT) as individual battery cartridges.
If you search this forum you’ll see a really old thread about building one.
