SMT750i very limited connectivity to Synology Diskstation.

It seems that the SMT750i cannot communicate more than very basic information in conjuction with a Synology Diskstation.
We need to be able to remote monitor UPS parameters so this is a very unfortunate situation for us.

Installing Powerchute on the main Debian server may be a possible fallback but it still needs to signal the Diskstation and
other servers to shutdown. I'd rather keep the DiskStation the controller for this.

Is there a schedule when this issue will be resolved?

i believe this is a result of the UPS being micro-link based. if I understand you correctly, you are looking for more data points beyond what you listed in your post above? but the SAN can still do a shutdown based on whats provided by NUT in your current set up?

Please don't shoot the messenger - we don't officially support NUT (or the apcupsd alternative). However if all that is required is shutdown, and if the host can connect to the UPS via USB, NUT should work for that function. For the additional information you want from the UPS, I believe you'd need an AP9620 Legacy Communications Card because I believe you are looking for items that are either APC proprietary USB usages or just additional information we used to provide on older UPS models or via our own software but do not anymore via this type of UPS and NUT.

there is some information on AP9620 here -> http://www.apc.com/site/support/index.cfm/faq/ -> search for FA156172

please let me know if I have misunderstood. i also can understand you may not want to have to buy the added accessory either..

I've since received an AP9620 LCC which makes this work as expected:

I think it should have been supported out of the box but I'm positively surprised with the AP9620, especially the fact that it is hot pluggable.

I also note that even though the AP9620 protocol does not support all features, the UPS itself seems to function identically with and without the AP9620 plugged in, including green features.

• can you elaborate on how the UPS is connected to the Synology device currently where you see this "limited" information?
• can you let us know if the Synology device offers different connectivity methods? for example, some NAS and SAN devices support USB and SNMP connectivity versus just one over the other.
• how do we know this is a problem with the UPS versus what the Synology device supports? do you have other UPSs that provide more information? if so, please let us know which makes/models.

I don't think the shutdown features of the NAS supports SNMP, but if it was SNMP in addition to USB I could probable let the NAS log the data.
I would like to log line voltages and power usage among others which is why I chose a Smart UPS in the first place.

The Synology NAS uses standard NUT ([http://networkupstools.org/]) which are common Linux tools for handling UPSes.
I think the problem is that you haven't worked with the community to get support for the SMT line implemented.

This hurts me as a customer.
