I have an SMT750IC that is connected to SmartConnect. I'm just a home user and have been generally liking the service. I don't have an add-on network management card, but I like remote monitoring and notifications so the smartconnect has worked for me.
- My unit currently running 4.1 is offering the 4.6 firmware update to be installed using smartconnect. I understand this is related to the zero-day security vulnerability.
- From comments on Reddit this "update" disables future remote updates. Does this apply to both NMC and updates using the Smartconnect port? Or just to add-on NMCs?
- If true, is it not a bit crazy to roll out an update over smartconnect that will disable the ability for future updates using smartconnect and require an onsite update using USB?
- And major peeve... in the smartconnect dashboard that shows the update is available, there are no release notes whatsoever or even a link to any release notes. Searching the APC site doesn't bring up any either. That's simply unacceptable, especially if the above is true.

To avoid remote malicious firmware attacks, firmware upgrades will be disabled via the NMC when upgrading to 4.6. You will still be notified when the firmware is available and will have the ability to upgrade via the cloud.
AS for the release notes, I have attached a copy and have asked the web team to upload them to SmartConnect.apc.com

Thank you for your reply, I appreciate that...
Still a little confused though. Are you saying that if you update to 4.6 then it is only subsequent updates via an add-on NMC card (example AP9640) that are disabled?
So that updates from 4.6 to e.g. 4.7 will still be able to be made through the smartconnect portal the same way as they are now?
