Hello -
I have a client building out a mobile production van that will be powered by a generator. With all the computers, displays and RAID storage I figure at it's peak it could potentially draw 2500W and even thats highly unlikely. I've never done this in a vehicle though so rather than just spec the usual I thought I'd ask around and see if anyone has any suggestions. Can I just use a typical Smart-UPS or do I need something different? Oh, and to make things even more complex, he's going to be using this in India . . . I thought the Smart-UPS RT line for Harsh Environments would be a good bet. Anyone? Thanks in advance

Tyler,
I'd say that's the best there is for that environment.

Thanks for the quick reply K -
I'll find out what I can about the generator. Which UPS would you recommend for 2500W in India (230V) that would be put in a Mobile Production Unit? (or I guess you need the specs on the generator first, right?) Thanks

Yeah you're still looking at the very least a 5kVA UPS, which means the generator is going to have to be at least 7500w for the UPS to run online without a problem

What's the voltage you're getting from the generator? The problem you're going to run into is that a 3kVA UPS is only capable of around 2200W, and that's at 120V. Therefore, if we're still speaking domestic UPS power, we're looking at a minimum 5kVA UPS (as that is the next highest UPS) which will cover the 2.5kW. The problem there is that the 5kVA UPS is 208V power.

Thanks K -
So the big question - which 5k UPS would you recommend for this (keeping in mind it's going to be in India.) I was only able to come up with the APC Smart-UPS RT 5000VA 230V RM Harsh Environment - model SURTD5000RMXLI-CC. Is there a better model you would recommend? Thanks
