Hi,
Probably a simple question to answer..
I've got a Matrix-UPS 5000 and have 4 Smartcell XRs connected to it. My EU LED indicates "*01 Battery Packs Need Replacement*".
How can I tell which battery of the four needs replacing?
Thanks,
Peter

You have 4 separate Smartcell-XR frames? Or do you mean one XR frame that contains 4 batteries? If you have 4 frames, you can tell which one needs a battery based on the red LED indicator on the front of the frame. Otherwise, if it's one XR frame, you should replace all 4 of the batteries - RBC14 - like Nix said.

Normally you should better replace the whole set - since they are all on one DC Bus and it would give you some imbalance if you just replaced one, that might result in a shorter lifespan for the replacements.
You can also check the serial # of your 4 SmartCell XRs - if they are close together it might also be an indicator that more than one is from the same datecode and might need replacing.
The good thing is: the RBC14 Battery Set is still available and would be the replacement kit for 1 XR Frame:
http://www.apc.com/resource/include/techspec_index.cfm?base_sku=RBC14
The bad thing: the Smartcell-XR Frames have a battery communications card which could also be faulty resulting in false errormessages. Since the whole matrix UPS Range and its parts have reached End of Life / End of Support Beginning this year (the UPSs themselves even earlier) those cards are no longer available as a replacement.
I would personally highly recommend using the Trade-UPS Program to get an SURT Range unit for your solution.
